Mobley as the backup point guard during Francis's hiadous on the IR. From watching the Kings game it was painfully obvious that Moochie needed a break in the 3rd and 4th quarter. He didn't get the break costing us the game when he let Bibby and Jackson get easy shots plus he didn't have enough to get the offense going in the final 5 min of the game. Thanks Rudy T. But knowing Rudy T and his style of coaching, it is more likely to see Mobley as backing up PG when Torres comes in to the games than Tierre Brown. Is this the rotation that works or will Tierre Brown get his chance to get the primary minutes as backup point guard? Some pluses: 1) Played some point guard as a rookie and did a fairly good job. 2) Knows the offense better than anyone else since he has been here longest. 3) Gets the ball into a scorers hand quicker. Himself obviously. 4) Puts the best possible scoring combination with himself and Torres. 5) Closest to the offense we currently have. Some minuses: 1) More turnovers than before. Alot more. 2) More loses when Mobley isn't hitting his shots. 3) More stupid mistakes on offense. Helter skelter offense. 4) Tierre Brown's development. He actually could be a good NBA rookie point guard ala Parker, Tinsley. 5) Will wear himself out so when Francis comes back we still won't be able to win. My take is that Rudy will start try and get Brown into the game tonight to see if he can handle the load. Rudy will have a tight leash and not run Tierre too long. If Brown can perform he gets the minutes if not it is the same rotation as before except Torres will be the 3rd guard and Mobley will become PG. I hope Brown can run the offense without giving up turnovers so mobley will get only around 38 min a game and not 45. It is our only hope for the next 3 weeks. IMO francis will be back in 3 weeks...
I'm asking this in all seriousness: why did Moochie need a break in the third and fourth quarter? He played only he played with noticably less effectiveness-- but not disastrously. He didn't appear to be winded. Nobody blew by him consistentlyl. Is it that taxing mentally or what? I'm serious here. All the TV guys talked about it too. I just don't see what the big deal is about playing all 48 minutes in a game (especially this early in the season) when you consider how many minutes he will play in the season.
I've come of dozens of injuries, and it's very very hard for someone to jump from a regular amount of minutes to something like double. Mooch used to play 20(?) minutes a game, and he played 45 that game. That's very hard to do, and I would understand if Moochie was strained by the end of the 4th. About the thread, I think it's better if we continue to play Moochie big minutes. I think we shouldplay him 40 minutes, MAX, and Cat 35 minutes (ankles). Tierre Brown can pickup 8 minutes, and Torres can pickup the rest of Mobley's minutes. I SERIOUSLY think this is a good game to let Griffin start. Most, if not all, of the Grizzlies' forwards are youg and Griffin would go in with confidence. He's better than every one of them, and he can gain some bigtime confidence by playing today. Even against Lorenzen Wright. Wright isn't a real C, and is barely 6'11. Not to big. What do you guys think? Oh, I have a felling Gasol is gonna eat KT alive on the offensive end.
It will be interesting to see how well battier plays, especially if he's ever matched up against griffin or (gulp) Tmo.
Did you not watch the game as Bibby and Jackson were lighting him up especially down the streach.... What do you guys think about Mobley as PG???
I agree with you woodlands boy. I think that if mobley is at the point then he will be asked to run plays and probably endup getting some nice pick and rolls together instead of the iso plays only. But I really dont see Rudy going to that stategy at least not a lot anyway.
