This might apply to those in Europe (SJC?!). I have a friend with a UK mobile, he is currently on holiday in Spain. I'm in the UK, with a UK mobile. If I text him, do I get charged a standard rate? Does he get charged to receive it? I know you get charged for people reaching your voicemail, and if I called him he would get charged the difference between my standard rate UK call and the call being made to Spain. Just wondering if there are standard practices or whether it is dependant on your provider. Anyone know about this? Guessing SJC that you might, seeing you travel quite a bit.
Text messaging costs depend on your mobile plan. Usually you get 200-250 a month for free, and can get unlimited for around $2.99... maybe cheaper in Europe since you guys are text messaging fiends. I've sent text and been texted from Houston to Europe a lot of times and have never been charged anything... SMS (Short Message Service) servers are generally internet based so it is equivelent of sending an email... for instance you can send text messages via MSN messenger to the users cell phone. With that being said, if you guys have a set number of free text messages built into your cell plan I imagine it wouldn't cost you anything to send them. You may want to send and receive one, and then log onto your cell company's website and check your bill online.
