With all this talk about Mo Taylor, it is possible for Jason Collier to get lost in the mix. If we do bring in or "audition" Taylor next year, how is Collier going to develop? The initial plan was to start Kenny and bring in Collier to share time backing up Cato, Olajuwon, and Kenny. We should think long and hard about bringing this guy in. Does he really fit in with our plans? Maybe Collier will be the answer at PF. We'll never know unless we give him a shot. With Mo Taylor around, he'll lose a ton of minutes. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
To hell with Collier man. Mo Taylor can be an All Star in another 2yrs if he gives 100% and I think Rudy can turn him into an All Star. I would trade Collier,Drew, and Williams to the Clips for Mo Taylor if they wanted a sign and trade.
Yeah screw Collier. Let's get the next Isiah Rider! ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
i don't feel that good about signing taylor if his defense is as bad as people make it sound. even if rudy can inspire him to play better defense, i just kind of have a problem with a player who doesn't have the ability or desire to improve their weaknesses without some incentive (i.e. change of local, new coach). he's obviously not a natural defensive player or rebounder and i think i'd rather have someone where defense and rebounding comes naturally than having to teach a skill that might never be picked up to the fullest desired extent. i kind of see our pg, sg, and sf as are primary scoring weapons and would like to see our front court with some really strong defensive and rebounding skills. in that case, i don't think taylor is what we're looking for. i don't want to turn into the suns...all offense and no defense...equals no championship. ------------------
CriscoKid you can make jokes about Rider all you want but when the guy is playing his game he is one of the best 2guards in the league.
I don't need to make jokes about Rider. He is one unto himself. And not someone I want on a team I root for. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Hey everybody: Let's start Bryce Drew over Francis, so we can see if hes' our PG of the Future. Just had to throw that out there. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Wait a second, Isiah Rider is like a messed up a-hole, and a complete biatch to his teammates. Mo Taylor is not. Mo Taylor was a CLIPPER. That justifies his problem, which was lack of fire. Taylor does not have rider syndrome. Nike is funny. ------------------ Starting at shortstop, for the Houston Astros, Nomar Garciaparra.
I think defense and rebounding can be taught, whereas shooting comes naturally and cannot be re-taught. How hard is it to teach someone how to rebound? When the shot goes up, stay between your man and the basket, box out, and grab the ball. How hard is that to learn? Long arms and a high vertical leap come naturally, but the ability to rebound is something that is easily taught. It's just about whether or not you are willing to exert that effort to box out your man every time. Defense can be taught to a lesser extent. Although Mo Taylor may not be as quick on his feet as other defenders, there are other things he can learn. Look at Karl Malone. I doubt Mo is any slower than Malone, yet Malone is constantly voted to the all defensive team. If Mo cannot get high enough for the block, he needs to learn how to strip the ball away as his man goes up for the shot. If anything at all, he could learn to take charges and flop a little. Now a nice shooting touch is something that comes more naturally. If you never learned to shoot with good form, it is very hard to go back later in life and redevelop your form completely. ------------------ I will demonstrate my clutchness this November.
Mo Taylor is not a defensive liability. He does not block many shots, mind you, but he does not play matador defense either. We have had many players with strong offensive games and less than stellar defensive skills - Charles Barkley, Kenny Thomas, Hamilton, (ok, maybe Hamilton was poor on both ends), etc. Mo Taylor would be an upgrade on defense as it stands now, and a HUGE upgrade on the offensive end. Sorry for my strong opinions in several threads on this matter. But I just cannot see why ANYONE is complaining about possibly signing this guy. He obviously would make us better. He obviously is a big improvement at the PF spot. SIGN MO TAYLOR. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------ [This message has been edited by HOOP-T (edited August 10, 2000).]
shoulda traded the pick itself along with maybe drew and Lo to the wiz for their 1st rounder next year. ------------------ "There are two rules for success... 1) Never tell everything you know."
As far as I'm concerned Collier can find himself at the end of a long bench. If we get Taylor, I could care less about how long it takes Collier to develop. We need a big man who can draw some attention. If Mo brings the scoring punch he had last year, then defenses won't be able to concentrate so much on our guards. The very last reason you don't bring in MO is because you want Collier to develop. Bad excuse not to do this deal. ------------------ He who stands for nothing will fall for anything.
Exactly, signing Mo would still help our frontcourt and give us a legitimate starting 4. Yeah, he may have a lot of deficiencies but we would still be getting more out of him than what we sign him for if he signs for the exception. That is a lot better than what we are having to do with Cato, whereas we give him hellajack and might never earn his contract. ------------------ I'm not clumsy, I just have to know my surroundings.
