This guy dwarfed CD who is easily 6'7". His measurement must be from his rookie season. If he isn't at least 6'11", I'd be shocked. By the way, he is a really nice kid. I saw him prior to the press conference and listened while he talked to some media guys just informally. He is really a super nice guy and very laid back. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Jeff, Did you notice he seemed to slip the term "Houston" in reference to the Rockets several times? ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I liked him too. Hearing the press conference has made me feel a lot more comfortable about signing him than ever before. He seems to be a nice young man, with the right mindset - hunger to win and desire to help the team. His mentioning Steve, Cuttino and Hakeem as the best center EVER also did no do any harm. At this point i would say that unless he is the devil himself in disguise, we made a very nice acquisiton. He seemed pretty confident in his abilities, said that he hasn't played his best bball yet, and seemed almost like a lock to sign with us next year long term. In a nutshell, i liked the kid. a lot. ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It´s Heaven and Hell!"
"At this point i would say that unless he is the devil himself in disguise, we made a very nice acquisiton." It's a good thing he's in Portland now. ------------------ WE WILL WATCH THEM FALL... Next year
Thanos, Very nice post. I agree 100%. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net 4th Friday of August= Rocket Day 1999-Steve Francis 2000-Maurice Taylor
I put this in another thread but it's worth repeating. I personally was very impressed when CD mentioned that Mo fixated on the championship memorabilia and pics of Dream in CD's office. Tells me Mo may have respect for the history of the game. Humility and a sense of place are good things. (Excuse the lapse of sentimentality). ------------------ GATER
That pleased me too, GATER. I suggest that all the Mo bashers and haters out there - there seems to be an awful lot of them - actually take some time to listen to the press conference. Don't read the transcript. Listen the RAM. He really sounds like someone who deserves our trust and not as the cancer some are making him out to be. ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It´s Heaven and Hell!"
No excuse necessary, GATER. I fell the same way. Mo' said all the right things and had a genuine look of excitement on his face. As for the topic of the thread, I agree with Jeff. Mo's is more like 6'11" and man you gotta love the guys ball handling skills! He's going to be a great addition to this team. ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
Good to hear on both points Jeff. The Rockets can always use more tall nice guys. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Yeah good to hear he is nice off the court because on the court he will get on you hard. He shows no shame, you mess with him and he comes after you. ------------------ "I talked about what degenerates they [Mets fans] were, and they proved me right. Jeff, I just wonder... if he had been having a press conference with the Sonics, would he have appeared closer to 6'7" or 6'8"? I was wary at the signing of Taylor, not so much for what he brings, but more for the future repercussions there might be. One thing I like a lot about him is that he's improved every year he's been in the NBA in: rebounding, assists, steals, blocks, and points. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page
Not to rain on the parade, but Quitten said all the right things at his first press conference as a Rocket, too ... but of course Quitten had a much longer track record of being a jerk than Mo has at this point. ------------------
wrath, Give Mo a chance! He's only 23 and he's got a lot of years left in him yet!! I'd say he's got a lot of potential to be a jerk ------------------
I NEVER, EVER trusted Pippen, not for a second. He was always a whining b****, and after he refused to go in the last seconds of a game because Kukoc was going to take the last shot, i lost all respect for him. I always knew he was going to be trouble. But it´s not worth dwelling on that anymore. It´s buried. I have faith in Mo. Just a gut feeling of mine. We won´t regret this move. Bet on it. I know i will. ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It´s Heaven and Hell!"
Mo Taylor's at least 6'10, i agree.. I have a question since we're talking about Quitten...I wanna make it clear that i have no respect for him whatsoever.....he digusts me....BUT, from a professional point of view, IF he were here in place of Walt (only), He'd fit perfectly.....basically what i'm saying, is he fits this style and this team perfectly.......YES I DO HATE HIM, I SAID FROM A PROFESSIONAL POINT OF VIEW.........So, is there anyone in the draft who has his style, is a SF, and defends GREAT? ------------------
Never compare mo taylor w/ quitten. There is nothing similar about them. One is old as hell and one is young. But the main thing I was impressed with Mo taylor was what he said on 610 w/ rich and charlie. He said that his talents were still raw and he still had to work on his game much much more. I was wonderin how he could say this b/c he avg. 17 pts a game? He still talks about his game being raw? Then a thought hit me, just imagine taylor becoming a polished player. I really like his humble nature and it all just topped off when he said hakeem was the greatest center player to play the game. He has respect, and a humble nature. These two things are very hard to find, especially in young players like him. ------------------
As I said before a couple of times. Anyone who plays for houston for less than market value is a winner in my book. Houston does have a rep of rewarding players that perform, so it is a good fit. ------------------
Jeff, Good job on the photos! I saw the photos that proffesional photographers took on NBA.com and Rockets.com and your ones are far better. ------------------ www.Rockets2000.net
Sane, the problem was, scottie wouldn't accept his role hear. And when Rudy did give him the ball, he literally handed it to Kobe Bryant. His #'s in Portland were not much better then WAlts. As far as defense, Pip got lit up alot when he was hear. I think Walt even scored on him a few times. I think Scottie is great at playing the passing lanes, but as far as one-on-one defending, he's overrated ------------------ "The road to hell is paved with Republicans."
Remember that game when pippen was here, the one we lost to the clippers in La. Rockets were down by alot and came back but lost it in overtime? I remember how Maurice Taylor was killling scottie pippen and barkley. He backed them in and took them out and that day I said to myself, "I wish we can get this guy someday". ------------------ "I talked about what degenerates they [Mets fans] were, and they proved me right.
