If the rockets could get another Power Forward, would the rockets leave Mo at the 5?

    Advantages
    1) Easier to find players capable of playing PF than it is at the center.

    2) Shotblocking centers would be pulled away from the basket creating more room for Steve.

    3) There aren't many explosive centers to exploit Mo on the defensive end.

    4) Mo is faster than the average center.

    5) Cato is hurt too much.

    Disadvantages

    1) Mo would get overpowered by some centers.

    2) Mo may have trouble fighting for boards.

    3) Mo may leave.

I thought you were going to suggest trading him to an East Coast team.

I wondered about this. Mo would get overpowered sometimes, sure. But if we acquired Reef or C-Webb---IF we acquired either, not WHEN, obviously---maybe this would work, as Mo can handle the ball, hit outside, and let our 3/4 spot do the rebound work.
    Maybe?

We then wouldn't have to wait on Collier to develop his NBA game and we would have our center that draws out Shaq and others.

I like the idea seeing that Mo can score on any 5 in the west when facing the basket.

Collier has alot of work to do to learn how to play. But he can become a decent backup. NOT A STARTER.

the upcoming draft notwithstanding, the nba is rapidly becoming a league of double power forwards. the age of big time centers is all but over. look around the league at the dominant "centers":

    1. Mourning - not playing, but still, truly a power forward. Zo, however, plays "big" enough defensively to play center.

    2. Duncan - though listed many times at pf for the spurs, he plays the center position more than d-rob. is he the bang it out type? no. he's pure finesse. an all around 15-18 foot in kind of player. definitely not going to bang tough with the big boys (what big boys???)

    3. Theo Ratliff - hardly a mountain, though chiseled. he doesn't have the outside game of the other "centers", but in the east coast where there are just a bunch of power forwards playing center, he not only survives, but thrives. still, he's not a bang it out, overpowering center, either.

    The Exceptions to the Rule:

    1. Shaq - a phenom of any era
    2. Dikembe - a true, old-school center who gets more rebounds than points. no offensive game, whatsoever.

    you know what?

    that's about it.

the rest are pretty much big lugs who have fouls to give. so could motay play center for us? i think so. he'd struggle with rebounding, but he does that anyway. more importantly, he's big enough and definitely talented enough to light up the large majority of the centers in the league today. here's a question for anyone out there:

if motay were amenable to the idea of playing center and were able to average 18 - 20ppg and 7 boards, does that sound like allstar numbers?

seriously, beyond shaq and duncan, what dominant centers are in the west? i think he could do it. and i think, in today's streamlined nba, those are allstar numbers. he has the body to withstand the heat and the ability to score pretty much at will. the only question is 1) is he open to the idea on a full time basis?

if he could move there, take the (i believe) mid level exception, and if the rox could get lucky and get a webber or dominant INSIDE presence at the "other" power forward spot, we'd be one hell of a team. a championship team, IMO.
