Well there has been a lot of stuff going on in the world of MMA. Last week was the premier of TUF4 on Spike tv, and I really like the fact that there are previous fighters that are in this season. The only thing I don't like is the fact none of these guys deserves a shot at the title. Tonight is the second episode and I am looking forward to it along with a new episode of UFC Unleashed. My picks to win are Matt Serra and Chris Lytle. UFC 62 is this saturday and with the exception of the 2 headline fights this is a very underwhelming fight card. The Chuck vs. Babalu fight will be GREAT. I think Babalu has a good shot of beating Chuck that is as long as he can get chuck on the ground. Chuck is on top of his game right now and I can't see him losing this fight. I think Chuck will win via KO. The other fight worth watching is Stephan Bonner vs. Forrest Griffin. I would be even more excited about this fight if Bonner would have shown up against Rashad Evans. He fought horribly in that fight and I expect him to put up a better performance against Griffin. But I do feel that Griffin is a much superior fighter and will KO Bonner. Also announced yesterday is that Georges St. Pierre had to pull out the the UFC 63 main event due to a groin injury. St. Pierre is my favorite fighter, and I was not happy about hearing this until I heard he will be replaced by the last person to beat Matt Hughes in BJ Penn. Hughes will be looking for redemption against Penn after getting choked out the last time they fought. And PRIDE fighting is having their first US show on October 21st in Vegas. The headline fights will be Fedor vs. Coleman and Shogun vs. Randleman. At the press confrence was none other than "Iron" Mike Tyson. He has signed a contract to fight for PRIDE in the future. It is unknown if he will be fighting under boxing or MMA rules. Personally I would love to see him fight under MMA rules. One clean punch from Tyson and someone is going to sleep although I don't think that would happen as he would be taken down ASAP. But I would be interested in seeing him fight none the less.
the last UFC was such a waste of $$$ I am not going to be buying any PPVs w/the exception of maybe the PRIDE Final Conflict next month. As for Tyson, this is about the 100th time he's been "rumored" to be under contract to a Japanese org (he was associated with K-1 for years for a rumored matchup with Bob Sapp); so I'll belileve it when I see it. EDIT: I should add I just read that he was announced by PRIDE to be fighting "PRIDE Boxing Rules" matches, allegedly in China - so yeah, I'll believe when I see it, considering that PRIDE, to my knowledge, has never had 1. boxing matches; or 2. events in China. More intriguing, IMO is Brock Lesnar's apparent entry into the K-1 MMA scene (he is apparently training MMA and has officially announced that he has signed a deal w/K-1). http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=2488&zoneid=13
I hope Chuck beats Babalu so that there are no complications in the upcoming Chuck/Wanderlei fight. And yeah, UFC is a waste of money. When you have Dana White actively trying to create superstars by feeding losers like Leben and Diego Sanchez total schmuck opponents, there's a bad aftertaste to it all.
The Tyson signing is confirmed on PRIDE's website. www.pridefc.com And Brock will be interesting. Being a NCAA champion wrestler he has a strong background to start with. I would love to see him in the Octagon he could pin people against the cage and Ground n Pound the crap out of them.
Anyone see the show last night? Man that was a NASTY cut that DeWees got. I thought for sure they were going to have to stop the fight. He lost a hell of a lot of blood.
I think Babalu will surprise Chuck and win this one. I agree Leben has been fighting easy opponents besides Spider Silva (who ko'ed him) but Snachez has beaten a few pretty good fighters in Nick Diaz and Karo so he hasnt been totally sheltered. Penn vs Hughes will be a war.
