No, there isn't current talk among mlb of re-aligning (that we know of) But as mentioned in the series thread, the game is heading (likely) towards a DH in both leagues and at some point that would likely lead to better geographic alignment. So, in your perfect world, what division would that lead the Astros to? For me, I wasn't against the move to the AL so much because of the DH, but because of all the games on the West coast (like this week). And while the Rangers are no rival right now, if we ever get to the point that both teams are good, it certainly could develop into a fierce one... My perfect division would be.... Astros Rangers Arizona Colorado St Louis Interesting to see the opinions
Baseball is WAY WAY about tradition. The AL and NL will never be broken up and Chicago will never be separated from St Louis (nor should they). No one gave a **** about the Astros tradition because they never won anything. If they had won 4 WS then maybe they would have. You can think about this all you want but not because it is the next logical next step.
If they were to geographically realign I'd prefer a Southeastern/Gulf Coast division with the Rangers, Braves, Marlins and Rays.
As said in other thread, if MLB realigns, Astros, Rangers, DBacks, Rockies with either Padres or Mariners.
In your division suggestion, only one team (St. Louis) mitigates late starts. Arizona is in the Pacific time zone and Colorado is in the Mountain time zone. They could break it into 8 divisions (with two divisions having 5 teams). Houston Texas St. Louis Cubs Then... Seattle SF Oakland Colorado Then... Angels Dodgers Padres Arizona And so on...that could work.
I dont want the stros and rangers in the same league period. Just like i dont want the texans in the nfc
Just curious, why is that? I think it would be awesome to see the Cowboys and Texans play twice a year. Many people seem to agree with you, I just don't understand why we wouldn't want to build true geographic rivalries?
True on the time zone, but most Rockies home games start at 7:40 central time, so later that our home games but not bad. Arizona starts most week night home games at 8:40, which is later than I like but still a little better than the true west coast games I would love your 4 team division for the stros though
The dream of an all Texas WS or SB. I know alot of people hate on the Rangers and the Boys but I dont get it, they're our brethren. I'd much rather hate on other regions of the country, like New York.
I was more concerned w/ leaving the NL style of baseball that the Astros were always built for...pitching, speed, small ball. In my opinion, the late starting games were a red herring argument. Remember, up until '94 (and beginning in '69), the Astros were in the NL West with the Giants, Dodgers, and Padres. Just as many 9:35 local starts then as now.
Yea, i get it . . .For me after about 20 years of not so many late starts, that is what got to me about it. Plus, in 94 I was a youngster who stayed up late anyway, now my old butt needs to be in bed by 10
The b****ing about the west coast starts is ****ing comical when the Astros played in the NL West from 69-93 with 3 west coast teams.
Oh hellllllll no. No team in Dallas is my brethren. Absolutely not. I'm offended by the mere suggestion. No thanks.
Didn't they play more of a balanced schedule then though? The unbalanced schedule, where you play your division a ton more, started after the last realignment.
Rockets have started their home games at 7 the last two seasons because of complaints of late finishes.
There were only two six team divisions and no inter league play at the time, so the PST starts were equally frequent.
