Oh gawd...So, the team that has home field advantage in the world series could possibly be decided by somebody on a last place team in the all star game? If they're going to pass this rule, then how about changing that dumbass rule that says one person from each team has to be represented in the all star game... hopefully, the players shoot this one down like a duck...Hell, a coin flip would be a better idea...
I think I am the 31st person in this world who actually likes this. Well, 32nd, because I think it was Bob Costas' idea in the first place.
you really think it's that bad of an idea?? is it any worse than leaving it up to chance (every other year switching)?? doesn't it add an extra element of interest to the all-star game??
Well, the next time the World Series goes to Game 7, and the home team wins, everyone will talk about the decision. There will be tons of controversy and this rule will be reversed. Nobody really cares about the All-Star game. You can't make them care with this gimmick.
What if you just had a very simple rule that would not directly affect the World Series? Every player on the losing side of the all star game would be castrated. This would change the game and increase interest. Fans would vote carefully for all stars too.
Terrible idea. How will Chipper impregnate any more strippers & Hooters' waitresses? It would be fun to see the entire Yankees and Braves starting lineups voted into the game, though.
Good point, Buck. How about one testicle each time your all star team loses? See, this is the sort of passion that could be restored to America's game. Let's call Bud Selig.
Why can't the team that makes it to the WS, with the best regular season record get home field advantage?
I was thinking the same thing, this makes the most sense and it rewards teams for their records, so WHY this alternating and All-Star game hullabulloo?
I have the impression that my suggestion is not being taken seriously. I have cut (so to speak) the rule down to the loss of only one testicle at a time.
Why can't the team that makes it to the WS, with the best regular season record get home field advantage? I think it's done this way because the leagues never played each other at all, so comparing records between the leagues is odd. Especially with the crazy unbalanced schedules they now have -- a team, for example, in the AL West is going to play a hell of a tougher schedule than one in the NL East. The NBA is the same, but at least about 1/3 of the games are against the other league. Last year, though, if the Nets had a slightly better record than LA, I think people would have still argued LA is the superior team because of the disparity in the West & East. That's the thing MLB tries to avoid, I believe. Personally, I love this idea. Now, players will play to win and, more importantly, managers will manage to win.
I think this is how home field advantage used to be decided. I may be mistaken though. I like the idea, maybe the players will start to give a damn abou the game and we can see a true all star game
Like it matters what the hell Sandy Alomar Jr. thinks, he's on the White Sox for God's sake, they will never get a sniff of the series!,
