I am quite the rookie to the D&D, but anything that makes Romney look like more of an idiot is worth my time: http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_7577685 For those who don't want to read the link, Romney was asked whether he would, quote "consider including qualified Americans of the Islamic faith in his Cabinet as advisors on national security matters, given his position that 'jihadism' is the principal foreign policy threat facing America Today The correct answer would have been, "I would consider any qualified applicant. It is unconstitutional to discriminate on the basis of religion. Besides, Islam and Jihadism are not one and the same." Mitt's answer was basically "No. There are not enough Muslims in the country to warrant their having a Cabinet position." Oops. Guess he didn't realize there are more Muslims than Mormons in this country. Not to even mention worldwide. And the 'unconstitutional' thing is second only to the gaffe of equating all Islam with terrorism... Way to go, Mitt--I'm so happy that he represents my Mormon faith so well.
Come on, Romney telling someone that Muslims are going to serve in his cabinet is political suicide -- right or wrong.
but his argument is laughable. muslims don't have enough of a population to justify a cabinet seat yet mormons have enough people to justify the presidency? are we going to use religious quotas to fill seats in accordance to their population? why do you want quotas TJ?
What about telling voters he'd be a better champion of gay rights than Ted Kennedy before coming out in favor of a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage? Would that sort of flip flopping be political suicide? What about flip flopping on abortion? And what about telling voters he's a Mormon? Suicide too, right or wrong? There are a hell of a lot of religious bigots in your party (take, well, you for example) and they don't just hate Muslims.
Ah, so it is Romney you're backing. Just as I suspected. Your earlier praise of his business acumen was too treacly to go unnoticed. What's good for management consultants and investors is good for America, right?
Only to wing nuts that don't know the difference between someone that practices the Muslim faith and a terrorist. I have one you might like: Dr. Robert Dickson Crane (born on March 26, 1929) is the former adviser to the late President of the United States Richard Nixon, and is former Deputy Director (for Planning) of the U.S. National Security Council. He has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books and over 50 professional articles on comparative legal systems, global strategy, and information management. From the early 1980s, Dr. Crane has worked full-time as a Muslim activist in America. From 1983 to 1986, he was the Director of Da’wa at the Islamic Center on Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, D.C. In 1986 he joined the International Institute of Islamic Thought as its Director of Publications, and then helped to found the American Muslim Council, serving as Director of its Legal Division from 1992 to 1994. From 1994 until the present time he has headed his own research center, the Center for Policy Research, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Washington, D.C. Since 1996 he has also been a board member of the United Association for Studies and Research and Managing Editor of its Middle East Affairs Journal. He is also an editor for the online magazine The American Muslim. Dr. Crane was also the founding President of the American Muslim Bar Association.
Willard Mitt Romney confuses radical jihadists and American Muslims. Not the kind of mind we traditionally think of as Presidential caliber.
Gays do not have the right to get married, nor should they, so no, that's not a flip flop. This is funny, a member of the Democratic party lecturing a true Republican on religion. No Christian who votes according to the moral code advocated in the Bible, could vote Democrat. Those who do simply don't practice what they preach. You'd do well to get yourself to synagogue a little more often, Bats.
texx, do you think bush is operating under the moral code advocated in the bible? romneys worst 'kerfluffle' was saying that his 5 able bodied sons were better serving the country by helping him campaign rather than serving in iraq. that was a 'maccaca moment' if there ever was one.
He's done more relying on his own smarts than any other candidate. If he's a moron, God help this country with whoever becomes president.
Republicans have a lock down on organized religion alright, but make no mistake Jesus would be turning over tables at the Republican convention if he was around in the flesh today. In the temple courts [Jesus] found men selling cattle, sheep and doves and other sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. [John 2:14 & 15.] Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. [Luke 12.15.] Truly, I say unto you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 19:23] You cannot serve both God and Money. [Matthew 6:24.] And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret… [Matthew 6:6 & 7] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy [Matthew 5:7] If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her. [John 8:7] Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. [Matthew 7:1 & 2.] You want our government to be more like Jesus? I do. If so, then they would. House the homeless. Feed the hungry. Start no further wars. Give care to the sick. Educate our young. The list goes one and on.
I would LOVE to hear why you think Jesus would prefer this to be done at the government level as compared to at the private level. Sorry to burst your bubble.
So, if it's all about personal decisions and not those of the government, what about Democrats do you find contradictory to the Bible?
That is so laughable. Jesus was for most centrally for peace, love, serving the poor and down trodden, and acceptance of all sinners (which is all people). Only the most twisted distortion of the most basic ideals of Christianity and emphasis of out of context texts would lead a person to the current Republican Party. Not that the Democratic Party reflects all Christian ideals either, but it certainly isn't any farther from the mark, and laughable to suggest otherwise.
Oh so Jesus would care so much more about governments issuing marriage licenses among gay persons than those entities engaing in wars and having policies fostering poverty. I got to love your comedic abilities t-junior
Why does it have to be an either or proposition? I am doing my part as a private citizen but why aren't the CHRISTIAN REPUBLICANS in GOVERNMENT using their influence and the power the people have given them to do these things that Jesus has commanded? SERIOUSLY, since you think Jesus would be a Republican and the Republican party is so religious that they must be following Jesus' word, if Jesus were a republican, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?
