I'm ashamed this happened near Austin. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...1602jan16.story?coll=orl-news-headlines-local

And check out this embarassing quote:
Georgetown is not that close to Mexico. And to blame it on a lady "who don't speak English." If they "don't speak English, why let them type? And how did you mistake "Jones" from "Ray?"

I saw this on the news. The chances of it being a mistake is slim unfortunately. Misspelling any part of "James Earl Jones" is understandable, but to misspell the last name completely with "Ray" is just too much.

No matter what the company blew it by not checking the plaque before sending it.

Yea, I just heard about that. Man, that is f***ing unbelievable!

I wouldn't be surprised if the head of that company that did this plaque gets fired over this. They should.....moron.

I hate to jump to conclusions, but that's too coincedental.

    That sucks.

I wonder how the person who made the "mistake" feels if it really was a "mistake." That's funny as hell though in a weird sort of way.

I also have my doubts as to how much of an accident it is, but to be honest, I've heard that mistake made innocently by a presumably intelligent graduate of a top-25 university before. In a postcard from Japan to my sister, she mentioned that she didn't hear a lot from the USA, except that "James Earl Jones (the guy that killed MLK) died." I haven't gotten a chance to laugh at her for that yet (not that the Lauderhill situation is funny).

Also, 1977 was the first time I heard of both James Earl Jones (the guy who did the voice of Darth Vader) and James Earl Ray (as the guy who escaped from prison at the other end of the state that was all over the news). I was 5 at the time, and remember getting them confused.

The AP article published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution had a fitting quote that neither of the linked articles had:

I read in the Sporting News awhile back that some sports announcer was going on and on about what a great man and actor James Earl Ray was before he died... and he was doing this for a couple minutes until his fellow commentator informed him of his error.

James Earl ____ could happen to anyone. I find it difficult to blame this person for making the mistake unless they came out and said, "I did it on purpose."

Mistakes can happen, but that is why you have proofreaders.

It sounds like to me that no one took the time to proofread this plaque and that is what is unbelievable to me.

Saying it is one thing and typing it is another. But, they are both, "redneckish" types of names. Maybe it was subliminal, but it was a horrible mistake, if it was. I have a problem with the owner saying "well, we employ alot of people who dont' speak English." My ass. Non-english speakers would not have made a mistake. Honestly, I think the chances of it being a practical joke are more likely.
