they were talking about how they made 4 into the tourney but all low seeds...but Conference USA had only 2, a 1st and 9th seed.....

I don't think you can argue that UH or UTEP were much worse, if any, than the four MVC teams that got in.

Of course, UH has no one to blame but themselves for losing to such powerhouses as Rice and Central Florida.

Southern Illinois always plays well in the tourney, and I'm sure UNI's victory over Iowa early in the season did a heck of alot to help their RPI. I still can't fathom that UNI will be playing Georgetown.

The CBS guys went on a misguided rant about this during the selection show, pointing out how many wins the major conferences had the last few years in the tourney vs. the MVC's of the world. But they failed to note that the major conferences are seeded to win. If you're a 13 seed, you're not supposed to win.

I'd like to see the stats of how 11 and 12 seeds from major conferences did vs. 11/12 seeds from mid-majors. I suspect it would be fairly similar. Including Duke's wins when saying a conference is better is stupid. The ACC being better than the MVC is already accounted for because the ACC teams are seeded better.

The real team that got screwed, in my opinion, was GW. They are something like 26-2. They may not have beaten anyone, but they did beat who they played. They could be great, very good, or mediocre - but we'll never know because they have Duke in the 2nd round and realistically should lose. It doesn't tell us how good they were.

I think the reason they were put so low was because one of their best players is out of the tourney...I think.

Pops was injured and missed his conference tournament. He's probably going to play in the Tourney, but it's no sure thing.

They were put that low because they played no one during the season.

If they were could they would still win at least one game.

I don't get what your point is. You're saying that a team from a major conference that is rated about the same as a team from a mid-major should have different results?

No, they didn't beat anyone. And then they lost early in their conference tournament.

Pops Mensah-Bonsu is not only their best player, but the coolest name in college hoops. The selection crew said his injury is the reason for their low seed.

I read that he *might* make it back for the tourney.

Oh I have no problem with them being put so low. I have a problem with them being put in the 8/9. They should have been given a 10 or 11 before they were given an 8 or 9.

A #13 seed should never win a game. If they do, it means they pulled a huge upset. Being worth of the tournament (the 34 at-large) doesn't mean you're better than a top-16 team (4 seed).

I'm saying if they want to b**** about a 3rd team being taken from the MVC or CAA, they should compare them to the people being kicked out (major confernce teams that would have been 11 or 12 seeds) rather than comparing them to teams given top seeds and easy opponents. We're not comparing Duke to Northern Iowa, but Florida State to NIU. Would FSU as a 10 seed do any better than NIU? I suspect if you look at the history of major conference teams in lower seeds, they'd be as bad or worse than mid-majors. That would tell me those mid-majors are just as deserving as the mediocrity that is the 5-7th teams in major conferences.

After all the b****ing about the MVC, they are now 4-2, with a pair of teams in the Sweet 16, all four wins over major conference teams, 3 wins over top-25 opponents, and wins over 10, 5, 4, and 2 seed. Not bad.

exactly. that conference proved their worth. the two teams that they have in the sweet 16, matches the same amount of teams that the SEC & Pac 10 have in the sweet 16, and is more than the Big 12 has represented.

hopefully the committee will now start giving some of these smaller conferences and schools a chance come tourney time. all that b****ing and moaning by guys like packer in the media was wasted, the MVC has been terrific.

Billy Packer looks dumber by the minute.

I really hope someone calls him on it this week.
