I recently misplaced the power adapter for my external hard drive. Ive called the manufacturer tech support and they swear that I should only buy a replacement from them that cost $18 and will take days to get here. Unfortunately I do not have the time to wait, and need to get my hard drive back up and running quickly.

Is this something that can be found at the nearest Radio Shack or Frys???

Here is the link to what they wanted me to buy from them
The hard drive has a DC 12v power supply socket connection for the missing AC adapter and power cord.

    Thanks!

Not sure what's inside your HDD. But you can open it and see if it looks like a typical hard drive. If it is, you can buy a connector to your PC. Or you can buy an HDD casing with USB output to connect to an USB port. Good luck!

if the connector is standard, just go to your local radio shack or electronic store and buy the same rated adapter. make the d/c voltage is the same and the watts are equal or higher.

sorry but all i know is on the HD where you plug in the power it says 12v DC.
I have no idea about the wattage and what not.
I wish I could read what was on the power supply but its missing.

If I go to buy a new bigger ex-HD is there good chance that power supply will work on the old one as well?

apart from voltage and amperage the most important thing is to make sure whether it is DC or AC output and make sure you have the right polarity for the tip. Wrong polarity means bad things...
