I failed to comply with a jury summons. No good reason, just thought it was a later date. It's Harris County. Will they issue a warrant? Do I need to call them? Do I need to evacuate Katy?
I have missed jury duty multiple times. I don't think Harris County will usually do anything about it. You should feel very ashamed though for neglecting your civic duty.
I would not worry too much about it. You probably would have been dismissed anyway for caring too much. I found this article from last year... Apparently in 2011 only 70% of those summoned appeared for jury duty. Also--the article mentions that the penalties haven't been enforced since the 90s. http://impactnews.com/houston-metro/cy-fair/harris-county-district-clerk-says-high-number-of-people-skip-jury-duty/
I think you should call and apologize, say you simply forgot, and ask what you should do. While it's unlikely that anything would happen if you didn't, why take the chance?
You can go online after you get a summons and click an "excuse box" as to why you can't make it. Example being that you are in college. They don't do anything. They accept that you can't make it and that's that.
I've gotten a jury summons twice before, and went online and clicked the box that said I'm in college (I really was), and that was it. Haven't gotten one since.
I went once looked at the defendant and said I had a keen ability and could tell he was guilty by looking at him, I was dismissed to the tune of oooohs and ahhhs.
I think I've failed to show like 10 times, for lack of them keeping up with my cornucopia of girlfriend addresses. They never cared once. Further proof that Honey Badger is studying my life. Make note...his next post for thxgiving will include the word--cornucopia
i have never went to jury duty... call me irresposioble, fine. ive kinda just been like fk it when it comes to that. since i was old enough to get summoned(18?), forgot what age that was. so like 8-10 years and nothing has ever happened..
You appear/sound like a straight up guy, so do the right thing and call them to reschedule! Don't ignore your civic duty as it is a very important part of our judicial system, and if we want the system to work on our behalf we have to be willing to participate. I've had to reschedule before (forgot), and it's no big deal, they just want you to participate in the process. If you are already in Katy, don't evacuate, head to the mall, there are some great sales going on right now... (P.S) I have never been chosen.... ....... ....... .......
Dont know how Tx works, but in Cali, when you miss jury duty they put your name in the system. If you get pulled over I think you get a citation or ticket or something.
I throw that **** in the trash. I have a job, a very hard one and I have zero time to sit and do nothing. I went last year though, got dismissed at 11am. Waste of time.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away when I was in middle school, my shop teacher spent like almost a month (or maybe more?) on jury duty. He came back and told us all about it, it was a murder case and the whole thing seemed pretty cool like in the movies. Twists and turns and errthang. That's all I know about jury duty. You should go.
They can't prove that you actually received the summons. For that reason, they seldom do anything. If you had called previously to reschedule and then failed to appear, it may be a different story. I appeared for jury duty last year while we were in the midst of a major shakeup at work. I got picked. A wrongful death case that lasted just over a week. I was stunned. As an attorney, I am the last person I would want on the jury.
I showed up wearing khaki shorts and they sent me home right away and said that was it. Huge relief. Wear shorts!
After eight years of eligibility, I've never been summoned. I just always figured I'm too smart, and they don't want me.
