Mischievous Pronounciation

    This drives me nuts. Listening to cable TV and this little gem of a mispronounciation comes up, so I decide to get to the bottom of the matter.

    Correct and incorrect pronounciations are below.

    CORRECT=mis-chuh-vuhs

    INCORRECT=mis-chee-vee-uhs

    -vious = vee us

    mischievous

    It's going to be a "fishes" kind of thing. It'll be pronounced incorrectly until the pronounciation 'officially" changes.

    I pronounce and spell it wrong.

    Kind of odd, but ever since Bush was elected, I've been pronouncing nuk lee ar, nuke u lar instead. I guess I shouldn't make fun of the b*stard....

    Being an american living in England, I don't even know how to pronouce words anymore. This country got me all twisted.

    So I just gave up on the whole pronounciation thing and went towards the, "As long as you know what I'm saying then we're cool."

    Try pronouncing this one before you click the link: victual :D

    Here's one that bothers me. Mature [muh-toor, -tyoor, -choor, -chur]. I've always pronounced it muh-chur. It's always seemed to me that anyone who pronounces it muh-toor is trying a bit too hard to be mature.
