When looking for a 2001-2002 link of Mirsad Turkcan to add to DaveS's thread, I found this new award he won on April 22nd, 2003. Thought it deserved it's own thread, since he got a thread last year when winning the regular season MVP http://www.euroleague.net/noticia.jsp?temporada=E02&jornada=20&id=368

Mirsad Turkcan of Montepaschi voted Top 16 MVP! Apr 22, 2003 Mirsad Turkcan Media elects Turkcan This time, the experts and the statistics agreed. The man who finished atop the statistical index ratings, power forward Mirsad Turkcan of Montepaschi Siena, has also been voted Top 16 MVP in a poll of European sportswriters. Although nine different players received votes from among the 60 journalists in the poll, Turkcan won convincingly, with a total of 28 votes. Turkcan was the best rebounder in the Top 16 (11.8 rpg). He also ranked ninth in scoring (16.3 ppg) and steals (1.6 spg), and 14th in two-point accuracy (60.9% 2FG). He also had the top overall performance index rating (27.0 per game) in the Top 16. Most importantly, he helped Montepaschi to make history by joining the Final Four in its first-ever Euroleague season. Turkcan is no stranger to end-of-season awards. Based on index ratings alone, he claimed the 2001-02 regular season MVP award while with CSKA Moscow. This season, through 20 total games between the regular season and Top 16, he won or shared 6 weekly MVP honors. In the Top 16 MVP poll, Turkcan finished ahead of a legend who was last season's winner, Dejan Bodiroga of Barcelona, second this time with 15 votes. Others receiving multiple Top MVP votes were Benetton Treviso point guard Tyus Edney (8), Montepaschi shooting guard Alphonso Ford (3) and CSKA center Victor Alexander (2). Guards Marcus Brown of Efes Pilsen and J.R. Holden of CSKA, plus centers Nikola Vujcic of Maccabi Tel Aviv and Denis Marconato of Benetton all received 1 MVP vote each.

For those who don't know 2nd place finisher, Dejan Bodiroga, he was the starting SG and team captain of the World Championship Yugoslavian team scoring 13ppg. He won this award last year that Mirsad won this year. This MVP award is from Europe's top league, and the their Top 16 team season is when they cut the teams down to 16 and do a second season of round robin (i think), culminating in a Final 4.
I don't think we have the rights to him. AFAIK he last played in the NBA for Milwaukee, after being released by the Knicks in 2000.
Mirsad... I still remember him working out at Westside, and he forced me to rebound for his sorry @ss for about 30 min. Afterwards, he took off his shirt and gave it to me like it was gonna be worth something... Think anyone will buy it on E-bay??? Maybe in Europe!
What if Mirsad comes to the NBA next year, and puts up better numbers than Rashard? Will all of you Rudy-bashers then conceed his genius?
wait...the fact that he plays in the same EUROLEAGUE that Pau Gasol, Gircek, Boki, Jaric all played in, naturally means Turkan is the second comming...
LOL...I want to be like that when I get older. Act like I am important when I am really not. Its funny.
Exactly. He barely beat out the great Tyus Edney? Those guys AREN'T in the NBA for a reason. Remember, Emanual Davis won Defensive Player of the Year in the CBA. There's only one NBA.
The Rockets traded Mirsad to Philadelpia for a future #1 choice ...which was in turn traded for the choice which netted Terrence Morris. On the Tyus Edney thing.. When Boki Nachbar was asked during his rookie interviews, who is the best player you have played against is Europe?..He replied,,Tyus Edney/
So, you guys think he proved to be a waste of an 18th pick, even though we surprisingly landed Pippen, making him expendable. I'm someone who likes to laugh at Ginobili and Rigadeau. But I'm not going to say Ginobili sucks. Mirsad beat out Ginobili last year and Bodiroga this year. The reason he's not in the NBA is because he's likely a hopeless tweener like Bodiroga, and he got a big contract last year. But biggest waste of an 18th pick?...debatable. well, at age 26 when he won the first MVP, why couldn't we call him the second coming of Boki--lol? And he was cheap as an 18th pick. Why can't we say he is likely every bit as valuable as Jaric, Boki and Giricek.
