In the interest of game time Clutch chat, I'm wanting to set up mIRC to work at my office, but of course we have infinite firewalls to block that sort of thing. I figure the best chance is to set up an OpenSSH tunnel to my home computer, something I've done to get other applications to work, but I'm a little uncertain as to the ports and configuration specifics necessary to get it to work. Anybody done this yet? I've done some preliminary Googling on the subject, but I realized there's a good chance that someone else here has already done the legwork. Thanks in advance if that person is you.
I have done many things at work that would probably get me in hot water, but 2 of them I have NOT done are going to p*rn sites and going into chat rooms. Granted, I am friends with our IT administrator but those 2 things I would not want to even try to test.
Buy a router for your home that has a built-in VPN. Then connect to your VPN at home, bypassing the firewall. They may detect it, though. Your other option is setting up a HTTP proxy. Google for details on each.
