I woke up early this morning for my morning stroll when I happen to hear the host of the overnight sports radio, Joe Beningo, interviewing the sports editor of the New York Newsday. The editor said that he got from a very good source that Dave Checketts(Head of MSG and the Knicks), Jeff Van Gundy and Grant Hills mother flew out of Orlando to Detroit to meet with Hill. The Knicks would like to convince Hill to come to New York. The Knicks are offering Childs, Camby and Sprewell in a sign a trade for Hill. Now, here comes the kicker. The radio host at WFAN mentioned that he heard Detroit had offers from the Clippers, Chicago, Milwaukee, Orlando, Atlanta and HOUSTON. When he ran down the respective team offers, he didn't say which players would be involved in the sign and trade for the Rockets. They both seemed to agree that he would end up in Orlando or back in Detroit. He also said that Hill going to Orlando is not a sure thing at all. They agreed that he would probably go there. But, its not a lock. (Contrary to the reports already out.) Now, the only thing I can think of is a sign a trade involving Cato and Mobley? But, could the Rockets have really offered anything to Detroit? Is that possible? Or was I dreaming the whole damn thing? Man, I hope its true. ------------------ I Want To Thank God For Making Me A Rocketfan [This message has been edited by Almu (edited July 06, 2000).]
Grant, of course, would have to want to come here. Never heard about him saying a word, one way or the other, but who knows? We'd probably have to offer Cato and Walt for starters, throw in some draft picks. It's a nice fantasy. I've wished we could get him here, considering his parents' proximity and his ties to the DC area (read: Francis). It's just that I picture him staying in the East, and he's been quoted as Orlando-bound. ------------------
Almu -- Sure would be great to land him, but I'm afraid Grant is loving the power here and I think he's Orlando or bust -- they're already house shopping. Personally, I think if his wife is set on Orlando, there's nothing he can do ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Almu, It would be a complete act of God for Grant Hill to be in a Rocket uni next year. However, I have seen stranger things happen... Orlando is getting really scary. ------------------
The only thing I found on New York Newsday online that sort of relates to this is: Dealing with Detroit will be very difficult unless Hill takes a firm stance against returning. Camby would appeal to them as a rebounder and shotblocker, but do they really want to team Sprewell with Jerry Stackhouse? As for Hill's part in this, why should he come to an aging New York team when he can join Tim Duncan in Orlando and have a better chance to win a title in the next few years? Duncan and Hill are spending this weekend in Orlando, and Toronto's Tracy McGrady is expected to arrive today. By the way, anyone who remotely thinks the Knicks can get Duncan should forget about it now. The feeling is widespread in the league that he had an understanding with Orlando before the Magic traded away two of its three first-round picks plus one of last year's first-rounders, Corey Maggette, to reach a point where it can get under the cap by as much as $22 million. Going after Grant might be more realistic for the Knicks. He opted out of a contract that would have paid him $38 million over the next four seasons. You don't do that unless you have a good idea that you can recoup that much somewhere else. Since Rasheed Wallace emerged as the Trail Blazers' go-to guy at power forward in the playoffs, they may be more willing to accommodate Grant's desire to find more playing time somewhere else. And I picked up the paper this morning and it does mention Checketts and Van Gundy working on bringing Hill to NY. Oh, well. ------------------ I Want To Thank God For Making Me A Rocketfan [This message has been edited by Almu (edited July 06, 2000).]
Grant Hill could have made $47.5 million more if he signed a 1 year contract and then signed a long term contract (both for the allowable max) with Detroit...so money is not why he is leaving Detroit. ------------------ Having a Rockets jersey, $40.00 Having a Rockets t-shirt, $15.00 Having CLUTCHCITY.NET, PRICELESS!
Mobley couldn't be involved since he is a free agent as well as Hill. Only one per S&T deal. Probably Cato + Shandon + draft picks.
I thought Hill wanted to play for a Champion, The Pistons and Magic are far from contenders so I dont get it. If he wants a ring go down to Indy for a year for a million and play with the best team in the league the Pacers. Although the Pacers dont have the NBC title, The Lakers won had that all year they are the best team and Grant can get his championship with the Pacers. ------------------
If the Magic got Hill, McGrady, and Duncan that would make them contenders Coach. And IMO, the only team you could support an argument that is possibly better than LA is Portland. Indiana was the victim of some bad calls, but they were overmatched. One of the two games they won was when LA was missing Kobe. And also, the Pacers have too many holes. I find it hard to believe that they will resign all 6 of their FA's. Unless something unexpected happens, Indy's run is over. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. Coach, you just don't get it, do you? Hill needs to go to Orlando. The NBC/NBA writers are already working on next seasons script and Orlando will most likely be written in to go to the finals instead of the Pacers. The Pacers already had their chance. Half of them were too dumb to read and follow the script anyways. Coach, didn't you know that NBC/NBA is working on having a champion from the smallest market ever? That way, when it happens, all the conspiracy theories will be banished FOREVER! Isn't that brilliant of them? You gotta love this game! ------------------ I Want To Thank God For Making Me A Rocketfan
Clutch, actually I've heard his wife, a recording atrist, wants to stay in Detroit. However, money talks and Grant is in Orlando house shopping, so go figure. ------------------ We need some meat in the post and I don't mean Brian Grant!
The Cat, Your joking right by saying the pacers were overmatched. How were they over matched when the Lakers received the majority of the calls in gms 2,4 and 6 and still barely won those games. If the refs calls fair game the pacers win games 2 and 4 easilyno ifs ands or buts about it. The Pacers were so overmatched they smacked the Lakers silly in game 5 by 33 points. Over matched hardly. I am surprised you said that Cat cause I thought you knew what time it was but it seems your getting brainwashed by the NBA too. If the refs call fair games the series is over in 5 and Pacers are recognized by fools and critics as champions but instead the fools and critics recognize the Lakers as your paper champions. Lakers paper champions Pacers undisputed peoples champion ------------------
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I've been brainwashed!!!! I hope Coach never gets banned for anything. Man, this is almost as funny as LHutz. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!!
outlaw: in another thread, aelliot printed an email response he got from Larry Coon about trading multiple free agents in sign-and-trade deals and it IS allowable under the CBA. You probably saw it already, but I thought I'd let you know anyway. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" SaveOurRockets.com
Cat, I dont see what is so funny about that post and I dont who LHutz is. I was serious Cat. If you all of a sudden feel the Lakers are this great team and they overmatch teams than your funny because the fact that the Lakers didnt even overmatch the Kings says it all. ------------------
