Initially I was skeptical about this movie because it was by Disney and I was just so scared it would be one, long 2-hour "Ra Ra Ra! Go America!" love-fest with no real backstory or interesting facts. But all the reviews I am reading about it make it sound less about extreme patriotism and more about a madly ambitious coach, maybe to a fault, who wanted very, very badly to beat the Russians. I'm also hearing good things about Kurt Russell's performance...so now I kind of want to go see it.
I'll probably check it out. The Miracle is still fresh for me and has yet to be diluted. I really have no idea about the story other than the big game. So if they hit the characters I'll be interested.
The movie is 2 hours of goose bumps. Sappy, and I enjoyed every moment. As mentioned above, it's really about Herb Brooks and his drive and will to build a team that could compete with the Russians. It's a great "feel good" movie. Curt Russell is wonderful and the cinematrogaphy is really good. Overall' fast moving and well worth seeing. Having watched the hockey team get the gold back in 1980, it was really fun to relive the experience. D R
