Why not just waive Tucker & save a non-garenteed 2nd round pick??

People may not remember this, but the guy PHX really wanted for the 29th pick was Aaron Brooks. PHX was putting up videos of all the potential draftee workouts they were conducting. Brooks came to one workout, and was impressive enough to be invited back. There were also reports that Houston picked Brooks 26th, instead of 31st (the pick that ended up being Landry) because they thought PHX was taking Brooks if available at 29th.

Of course, the Brooks and the Landry picks were both widely panned at the time.

And I'm not even sure why - both players had very good college careers... sure, Brooks is short and Landry is 'reach challenged' - but they wouldn't be the only undersized players ever drafted...

Because people were pining for Big Baby, Josh McRoberts, and Tiago Splitter and never heard of Brooks and Landry and thus thought these guys were destined to be low 2nd-rounders. This is what I gathered from the posts made at that time.

Its PHX fault. They also had either the 23 or 24 pick in that years draft but instead sold it to the Blazers which turned out to be Rudy Fernandez. After last years playoffs, I have no doubt the Blazers was also kicking themselfs for not picking the local college product. Either way, props for Morey getting this diamond in the rough.

about the brooks pick... i think people were upset because we had like 4 other pg's at the time. rafer, james, francis, head... then you draft brooks? i was wondering what they were thinking.

juwon howard was the lone PF on the roster, and as you said davis and mcroberts were available.

but it's a good thing you and i werent drafting for the rockets that year ;)

Well... as it turned out, Rafer was the only semi-useful one. Funny, eh?

I wasn't screaming for McRoberts or Big Baby at the time... though I was hoping for Nick Fazekas from my alma mater out of pure homerism. Yep... Nick Fazekas rather than Landry for PF of the future!

(BTW, the actual Houston Rocket from my alma mater? Kirk "Don't Sleep on Me" Snyder.)

    Hart's contract isn't guaranteed.
