Since the Rockets need another shooting guard and New Orleans needs more beef to back up Magloire, how about resigning Jason Collier and trading him for Courtney Alexander?

that would be a steal if the rockets could pull it off. courtney alexander is a pure scorer that could back up cuttino for 10-15 minutes per night.

uh, if anybody wants colly, which I guess is possible, then why not just sign him themselves?

umm, Alexander is set to make $2.1 million next season. If I were a GM of an NBA team and my starting center was 5'10", I would still not think about paying Collier $2.1 million.

That kid will be lucky to get $500k next year.

Both teams are over the cap, so it keeps the books even. However, maybe we could toss in a Chicago second rounder to sweeten the deal.

Teams have Salary Cap Exceptions for that reason.

My dear fellow Longhorn, the Hornets have never really used Courtney Alexander and may be as unhappy with him as some of the Rocket fans are with Collier. I'm just trying to figure out a way to get a quality shooting guard with a 7-footer that can help another team.

Dude, that's the problem. He CAN'T help another team. How much do you think J. Collier is worth? Some of yall overvalue our players...waaaay too much.

I am willing to bet that 100% of the GM's in the NBA concur.

I disagree. Collier got no playing time because he was behind Ming and Cato at center and behind Griffin and MoT at PF.

In both cases, Rudy had a vested interest in playing people ahead of Collier (i.e., justifying high draft expectations and high salaries). Granted, the mentioned four are better players, but Collier is a 7-footer with a decent shoot and an ability to set a mean pick. Collier seldom gets any credit for his play, but he does hustle and he will make some team a solid backup center or power forward.

That kid will be lucky to get $500k next year. I am willing to bet that 100% of the GM's in the NBA concur.

    I'll take that bet!

Thumbs, Collier & Collier's agent aren't the only ones who see some value in Collier. He has a big body, a decent shooting touch, and knows how to set a pick. He also happens to be on one of the few teams that actually has depth at the C. In a league where more and more teams fill the center slot with an affordable role player, I think Collier can find some PT on several NBA teams. Some of you guys are quick to forget the NBA execs pay a premium for height. However, I think health is a concern for Collier.

Most of Collier's IR time was not because of actual injury but because there wasn't enough room on the bench.

Alexander is a pretty solid 3rd guard. Can play both positions. Lil bit of an inconsistent shooter, but regardless, you would probably have to give up more than Collier.

If NO does not resign Brown, they could use a PF like Mo Taylor, who would be solid in the East. Maybe Taylor and Hawkins for Alexander and George Lynch?? Lynch can play the backup 4 and is not a bad player. Alexander fills the 3 guard spot.

Ultimately, I don't think Lynch fits our team. Plus, NO does not really have any decent back court depth other than Alexander. This is why trades don't often go down much anymore.

I don't see the Hornets trading Courtney Alexander for Jason Collier. Collier hasn't done much in the NBA and certainly wasn't worth the pick the Rockets picked him at. Just a year ago the Hornets traded the #16th pick to the Wizards for Alexander. They wanted a 3rd guard themselves to go with Baron and Wesley. I doubt they would give up on Alexander when they could probably find a cheap big somewhere in free agency.

I just don't see the Hornets doing this trade. However from a Rockets perspective it is a good one. We get a better 3rd guard for a player in Collier that is a 5th wheel on this team.

I don't think the trade is too outlandish. $2.1 million is a bit high, depending on the length of the contract, but I could see how the Hornets might have an interest in paying him that much on a gamble if they were shedding another player they already know they don't want to use.

This trade would be good for us...I don't know if they want Collier. It doesn't matter...they have Tim Floyd as their coach! So sad...well Courtney Alexander is supposed to become a pretty good player in the future..if this was possible...I would do it!

Even though I think Courtney is better than Collier I would not do the trade for one reason. I want to see Boki get some run. He was the 15th pick in the draft, a lot of people were high on him last year and from what was said he has the talent to play really well. I dont want to add another SG/SF type in the mix and sit a potentially very good player on the bench for an average NBA player. I think we should give Boki a chance before looking for options to take his minutes.

Collier was a 15th pick who was traded for a 9th pick and a future draft choice...and the Rockets never really gave him a real fighting chance to make the team.

Teams over the cap can still sign players for the Minimum...and that's all Collier's worth...if that...
