Dont know if this has been mentioned, but reports in Minnosota said that on July 18th, Gary Payton and two other players will be traded to the Wolves for Wally Scerbiak, Terrel Brandon, and Radoslav Nesterovic. With Payton and KG, I think we can safely say they are Defineitly a playoff. team again. Looks like Houston will only be battling with the Suns, Nuggs, and Clipps now.

They lose depth, and in return get an aging point guard. I think Minnesota does not profit from this deal.

The "aging" PG that scores over 20 ppg is on top of his game. Don't deny it, playoffs T'Wolves.

He certainly did wonders for a Sonics team that was more talented than the Wolves this past season.

Bad trade for the Wolves. I'm sure Garnett is all for it with them being friends, but Payton wants big money in an extension, you now have no 3rd scoring option with Szcerbiak gone, and you lose depth.

No WAY was that Sonics team more talented than the Wolves team. Ewing and Baker are far from talented at this stage in their careers.

    Payton+Lewis and KG+Brandon+Zerb

    or

    KG+Payton and Lewis+Brandon+Zerb

Personally I think both teams get a good deal.

well at least we won't have to see that pick n roll w/brandon and Garnett. That damn play always killed us. While Payton will probably run that play, I think Brandon is a better pure shooter than Payton and we won't get burned consistently. Besides Payton may be the rotten apple that screws up the team chemistry and morale.

Minnesota is guarenteed a playoff spot as long as KG doesn't blow out a knee. [IMG]

I don't like this deal for the Wolves. They get an awesome PG, but I think they gave up too much.

They had solid building blocks in Tszerbiak and Brandon. I've always felt that Terrell was the best fit for that team at PG, and with Loren Woods there now, I expected them to be better.

I think they just lose too much. Both Wally World and Brandon. Payton is awesome, but I really think they lose out on this deal.

Give me a break! The Wolves give up one of their top scorers, and a pure PG for a disgruntled Gary Payton. Lets say Payton plays like the Payton of old, where is their extra scoring come from? They give up to scoring options and a passing PG for one scoring option and a PG who passes less, and they give up depth.

First, as an almost hard and fast rule, the team that gets the best player wins when it comes to trades. That has borne itself out again and again. From that standpoint, the TWolves did a good job on this one.

However, NO ONE is guaranteed ANYTHING. That's why they toss the ball up and play the games.

I don't think that we can necessarily say that the TWolves lose depth until we know who the other 2 players that are being traded along with Payton are.

I understand they'll just be fillers, but sometimes a team gets good value from fillers!

I don't necessarily agree that the team that gets the best player wins the trade. We saw what happened to New Jersey. Also, Minnesota is a team that lacked talent, and made up for it with pure team chemistry, and now it is going to be seriously altered.

I don't think this is a bad trade for the Timberwolves. I just don't see them becoming a title contender. Brandon played on par with Payton for great stretches of last year and the T-wolves had a solid year against most predictions. They still got spanked in the playoffs like they always do. Payton still has a solid three, or four years in him, though. The problem with Minnesota is the lack of any young star to pair with Garnett. They still have no center (Loren Woods? Nuh uh), they are hurt on the perimeter by losing Wally and there is no draft help on the way for a long time. I don't see the Wolves getting Rashard Lewis in this deal. Plus, with Payton they will be totally capped out.

i dont see how this makes them better, in fact it makes them worse, imho

brandon was the best floor leader for that team and sczerbiak provided great outside shooting ability, plus...

The big key to the timberpups success was their chemistry, they never ever had an overly talented team now theyre playing with fire, when u play with fire many times you get burned i think they will get burned and miss the postseason
