Take a look at this picture, he's like 2 inches off the ground when he's dunking! God he is tall. http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/wbc_china.html
In the video that Clutch put up on the website, it shows Ming doing a turnaround jumper and he looks to be a good 6-10 inches off the ground during the apex of his leap. But at his height, as long as he can move fluid and get a good jump at blocking shots, he should be fine.
9'6" Christofferson, the guy he had his workout with has a 9'11" vertical reach flat footed and weighs over 300 lbx which explains how he blocked mings shot.
I 100% sure it is a mistake in the measurement sheet that Christofferson is 9'11. His wingspan is about 7'4, even a bit shorter than Ming's 7' 4 3/4 wingspan. And Christofferson is 7'2, also shorter than Ming. So. how come this guy has a 9'11 vertical reach? I think he may be aournd 9'1 to 9'4, still good though.
i don't know the thread it was in and i don't have the link, but there was some article about all the heights and reaches and wingspans of the draft picks. ming was obviously the tallest, some 6'10 guy i think had the longest wingspan (don't think it was hilario), and christofferson was said to have the highest reach at 9'11 to ming's 9'7. so that's where the 9'11 reach comes from.
I think it was just a misprint. It doesn't compute mathematically (Ming=taller, longer wingspan). Logically-why would a guy who flat footed could reach just 1 inch from the rim, and has a 7-2, 300 pound frame, in an era desperate for big men go undrafted? Misprints happen. I think nba.com mistkaenly listed Papadapolus (sp?) at 7-11 rather than 6-11.
