I just saw the "report" on Ming on Ch. 2. It wasn't too informative though. News Reporter: "Hey Ming, how does it feel being closer to America?" Ming: (looking hella-tired) "This is Canada!" News Reporter: "Uh, okay, but its close to America" Next segment after they tal about his ability to speak scattered English they are in the hotel. News Reporter: "Hey Ming do you have time to talk for a moment?" Ming (looking hella-tired and disgusted like I don't feel like talking) "Moment, just moment..." Ming gets cut off as Chineese officials cut the interview short b/c they don't want any players talking to the media until tommorrow. Besides watching Ming blow off a reporter (he's already acting like a NBA balla) it was pretty much a waist of time. Probably like this thread .
The Fox one was ok. It showed Ming getting off the plane, Ming was asked something like "how does it feel, your first trip to North America since being drafted" answers "I'm excited to be in Vancouver". They talked with Steve Nash, and with the Canada national coach. The Canada coach said he is impressed with Ming, but thinks getting up and down the floor endurance wise may be an adjustment. Nash said he thinks it will take time for Ming to assimilate into everything-NBA pace, American style, the language barrier, etc. Nash didn't seem to be overly impressed with Ming. Fox got an exclusive interview with CD-they've been talking with Yao's agents, Huizenga and Zhang, the past two days, cutting away the final red tape, and getting the rest of the paperwork ready. Of another note, Zhang has been going house shopping for Ming in Houston the past couple days...Does anyone else want to see an MTV Cribs with Yao Ming?
I still remember when someone posted what that would sound like. He would have bikes instead of cars. It was pretty funny.
What kinda pissed me off is that the team offical didnt let Ming even say a word with him. If they wanted to promote him and China, why not? He did look tired though, those overseas flights are brutal, I have been on a flight from Detriot to Japan for 16 HOURS!!! The reporter should have said that he was from Houston and maybe he would have made a comment or something.
It is funny how the media is even controlled outside China. But, most reports ask stupid questions anyways....so maybe it is better this way. Boy, when he is in Houston, he will be interesting to watch develop from a personality standpoint in dealing the all the attention. The dude will not be able to walk into any restaurant or store without attention. but, then at 7'6" he gets it in China....but now, he will not be restricted in his interviewing or will he?
