Mingming Sun who is 2-feet taller than Yao and trying to get into NBA, is currently in US and needs a surgery to remove brain tumor. He has received $13,000 donation for the surgery and is still $60,000 short. Could someone who can contact Yao directly send Yao a message to let him know the situation? I hope Yao can help him.

Sun working out with ex-NBA player GatlinAssociated Press

HONG KONG -- A 7-foot-8 Chinese basketball player hopes to follow in the footsteps of Houston Rockets center Yao Ming.

Sun Mingming, two inches taller than Yao, has attended a training camp in the United States and hopes to be picked in the NBA draft next month, the South China Morning Post reported Sunday.

If the 22-year-old Sun is signed by an NBA team, he would become the tallest player in league history.

Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, at 7-foot-7, are the tallest players in NBA history.

Former NBA player Keith Gatlin, a coach who has worked with Sun, told the newspaper that the Chinese prospect is a 70 percent shooter but needs to work on his agility.

"He really doesn't get much lift and that's something we're looking at to improve," Gatlin said.

Still, Gatlin noted Sun's height means "he pretty much only needs to stand with his arms up in front of the net and he's blocking the basket."

I feel for the guy. But poor Yao will have to sign a few more max contracts if he's going to help everyone who needs to have surgery in the U.S.

Not to sound insensitive or anything, but... Why should Yao donate the money out of his pocket to help this guy? Why should anybody?

What I mean is... How is Sun Mingming in any more need then anybody else?

I know! because he is also tall and Chinese! Other nba players shouldn't help though. Maybe wang zhizhi, but everyone else should only help those in the same race groups. Right? am I right?

I think he should get a loan from someone with a clause that says if he gets paid by NBA, then he will pay ten times (or more) back... Some people might want to take this gamble.

ya no one is giving him the money because he is a bust, always will be a bust and is about to have brain surgery. come on when they say he gets no lift it means that he cant jump rope.

this guy will break the first time someone comes in to take it to him, and trust me every dunker in the game will attack this guy. I'd love to see Stro take a few swings at him.

This guy will see his rookie contract and thats it. Although he will probably make a decent living playing pro ball in some country somewhere, so i dont feel too bad for him

Word has it that Sun Mingming underwent a very successful surgery on 9/27 that got his brain tumor removed. He's expected to fully recover in 2 weeks.
