who thinks ming will be the rookie of the year?

i do. i don't think there's anybody out there that can really put up a real good challenge for this award.

how about Jay Williams? I think he'll win it in a landslide. Besides, who votes for rookie of the year? Is it sportswriters? Even if Ming did deserve it, most of them wouldn't vote for him just because they wouldn't want to admit how wrong they were.

by the way, love the username.

If the Rockets make the playoffs and Ming performs well in the nationally televised games and has a decent year, he may get a few votes.
JWill will need to put up monster numbers on a very bad Bulls team( who will not have many nationally televised games) to get any consideration.

Plus , do not underestimate the power of David Stern who wants to market the NBA worldwide. Who better to use for that marketing than Ming? Ming will get alot of publicity along with the Rockets if they start winning some games this year.

JWill in Chicago will post good numbers on a bad Bulls team. He has played well in the summer leagues and has Rose to lean on. He's not afraid to shoot and has very good vision. He already showed great chemistry/timing with Chandler and others in the summer league.

Drew Gooden played well in the summer leagues but may find the regular season a bit more difficult. He should be starting since Swift hasn't really done much since he's been there. But he has to share the ball with Pau, Shane, and the original JWill (who loves to jack up the shots).

Ming will be starting soon after the season starts and he gets some practice time in. He should do well after he gets used to the offense, posting decent numbers in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. Getting above average numbers in multiple categories and helping the Rockets get into the playoffs will ensure the ROY honors.

J williams will hopefully choke. Personally I don't think he can survive in the nba. And the only reason he will is because he is on a crappy team.

I think Ming is the early favorite for ROY(pronounced Waugh).

Ming will NOT win ROY. If he does well people will attribute it all to freackish height and if he sux they'll say they told us so. I didnt want Ming, but I am coming around little by little. I dont see him as being a real contributor this year. With him playing in tournaments all summer, getting no camp, and then starting the season he is facing an uphill battle to get acclimated and maintain playing for a long stretch. I see Yao as having a Kwame Brown type year, hes better than Brown but their are too many things going against him having a ROY type year. Nachbar might have a better chance actually if his injury heals before the season.

I love Ming as much as the next guy, but I really do not think Ming will be the Ichiro of basketball. Ming will be awesome, but Ichiro is just from another planet!

Ichiro is a totally different case. He was a very experienced rookie, having played professionally for several years in a relatively well regarded league.

Ming will get some mention, but his main problem will be foul trouble. He will have to learn how to pick his spots, and not try to block every shot.

    Ming, rookie of the year

    runner-up - jay williams

i think ming will blossom like no other. he has the most potential of becoming a super-star of this rookie class.

Don't forget about Caron Butler in Miami. He's gonna be starting right away (unlike Ming?) for a decent, offensively challenged Heat team.

Just to show how much you watch bball Lee. Caron Bulter, I've this guy play, is gonna be a super star. He has the touch, body, speed and strength to excel and dominate in the NBA. Jay Will, Wagner or Bulter will be ROY. Ming will be average or a little above his first year. No preseason camp will hurt Ming. I guess the Chinese don't really care about his success or they are just ignorant.

Good point, but there was alot more hype surrounding Sampson than there is around JWill.

I think DaJuan Wagner will have a much bigger impact in the NBA next year than Williams, IMO Wagner will take ROY.

Ditto... Especially if the Cavs trade Andre Miller like they are expected to with the Clippers. Wagner will get huge numbers in that case.
