Ming is a huge question mark and even if he is as good as we hope he can be, his unnatural height will make his career shorter than the average center (early age knee and back problems are an almost certainty)

Duncan at center with MoT and KT at PF and then bring in Cato at the center and shift Duncan over. Duncan has been pretty much a one man team in SA for the past couple of years. I wonder how he would do with a much more talented back court like Steve and Cat?

Would SA do this knowing that Duncan will likely leave anyway? Would the Chinese govenrnment allow this? Inability to trade him is just part of the baggage that will come with Ming.

Just thinking out loud...lot of time to kill between now and October.

    Go Texans!

I like Griffin and Ming a LOT so I would not do this trade anyway. As for the injury thing, there hasn't been many 7'6 guys period. Some guys didn't retire because of knee problems. If I remember correctly, someone said Sampson (7'4) had someone fall on his knee, so that's one tall guy who retired to knee problems. Also, who's to say Duncan doesn't get knee problems?

Griffin could also end up better than Duncan. That's a big if, but it could happend. In fact, Ming could to, but that is also not likely. However, combined the two could become incredible.

If Duncan is overpaid, who's not? I admit that I don't like him very much, but I do respect him. He gets a double-double almost every game. He gets points, blocks, and rebounds as well as some assists. Also, he could still improve a little. The only problem I see with him is he usually plays PF, when he should play C and he seems to disappear against Shaq.

ha, now that's crazy talk. literally. anyways, duncan is awesome but i wanna take my chances with the twin towers we have. i think both are special.

slyedm - like rc cola said there aren't too many guys that tall to compare ming too. for all we know he can be as injury-free as malone. plus this guys legs are like twice the size of most people's. it looks like he will hold up.

    No.

    Ming = Duncan
    Griffin = Duncan
    Ming + Griffin > Duncan

    Ok, that's just a speculation. :D

Realistically, if after the trade's done:

Either Yao or Griffin pans out to be a star while the other becomes a solid starter it'd be a steal for the Spurs. Advantage: Spurs

Both Yao and Griffin tear it up - it'll be a gargantuan Rockets tragedy. Huge advantage: Spurs

If both of them become solid starters it's a wash. Advantage:Spurs(more security from injuries)

If one tears it up like Duncan and the other becomes a bust. Advantage: Spurs(they got a younger Duncan. :D )

If one turns out to be a solid starter and the other fails. Advantage: Rockets

If both end up being busts. Impossibleeeee!!!!!!

    There you go.

That trade would make us the best team in the NBA. Francis and Mobley will catch fire due to Duncan's inside presence. they will both average at least FG45%, as well as Francis's assist numebrs going up, and Cat's 3-py accuracy increasing AGAIN. Throw in Mo Taylor, who complements Duncan's inside game perfectly. Mo can take pressure off Duncan with his sweet J. At SF, we have Rice and Boki.

Would San Antonio do this trade though? How dooes anyone convince them that Duncan will walk?

I think the key is to make them realize that this deal benefits them more than waiting for him to re-sign or be traded. Ming and Griffin are 2 starters, their new twin towers. Add Tony Parker and Ginobili, that's already 4 new and excellent starters.

    Could you imagine though?

    Duncan
    MoT
    Rice/Boki
    Mobley
    Francis

I honestly, honestly think that a Ming, Griffin, and Cato for Duncan deal would benefit them. Jason Kidd will be 32 (i think) when he's eligible to be an FA. Same goes for Payton, maybe even 33. That's what they're banking on. How many years does a 32 yr-old Kidd or a 33 yr-old Payton have in him?

Ridiculous. Duncan is definitely worth more than two solid starters.

Right now, the Rockets would have to make the trade. Duncan is prolly the best NBA player not named Shaq And still young. While both Griffin and Ming might become very good players, the probability that either will ever become as good as Duncan is very, very low.

Although it is low, it is higher than most players. Also a 7'6 and almost 7'0 twin towers would be incredible. Both could combine for unreal numbers: 15blocks, 30 rebounds, you name it. While Duncan would have to have someone to help him get a combined effort like that. Even if both are worse that Duncan, combined they are more valuable.

It's threads like these that make me wonder why the Rockets have so many asinine fans.

There is no chance in hell that Duncan would ever be traded to us. The Spurs would trade Duncan to 20 other teams before they trade him to us.

This is similar to starting a thread stating that the Rockets should have traded Olajuwon to SA for Terry Cummings and Rod Strickland.

There are now way too many mental midgets inhabiting CC.net!

I know you were using an expression, but you shouldn't say something would never happend. I would think that if SA needed a PG and C, we could trade Francis and Ming for Duncan. (need to equal out with other players though.) I wouldn't do that, but they may. Especially if he wanted to leave anyway.

There really is a fat chance of SA ever trading to us. Chances are, that SA will have about 30 other trade offers as well. Perhaps Cha would trade Baron Davis and Jamal Maagloire for Duncan. That would be a better deal for SA, 10-fold. They don't trade their star player to a bitter rival, and get a better deal.

The day the Spurs help the Rockets, is the day that John Stockton and Karl Malone retire as Rockets.

    Jeez.

    1. Threads started by people with 4 posts to their names that include heavily derisive remarks about one of our players are likely trolls.

    2. Panda: Ming=Duncan? That's an absurd claim. Ming could be as good as Shaq, or he could be a total bust. There's no freaking way to know. And the odds are very good that he won't be as good as Tim Duncan. Every #1 pick comes in with huge expectations, and only one every 5 years turns into a player like Tim Duncan. Maybe less often.

What? 16 points and 8.5 rebounds each from Yao and Griffin at 30 mpg are not enough for Duncan? Those are two late David Robinsons there.

If the Spurs doesn't have Duncan they'll have no frontcourt, you think they won't consider a 32 points, 17 rebounds and 3 blocks frontcourt at 60 minutes per game if it's offered? Yes Duncan is averaging 25 and 13, and you can pair any scrub with him to get those numbers, but that tandem won't be the same as Yao and Griffin defensively. Also, Duncan is playing 40 minutes a night. His numbers will become lower to 19 and 10 if he gets only 30 minutes, compared to 16 points and 8.5 rebounds of a solid starter it's not that big a difference. Robinson will retire pretty soon, so he's out of the picture in this case.

As to being as good as Duncan, hell individually they can be better than Duncan. Sky is the limit. Even neither becomes as good as Duncan, combined they can still be more valuable than Duncan. Who's to say that Yao and Griffin won't be able to average 20 points, 10 rebs and 2 blocks each? If that happens, they will worth more than Shaq cuz they are the only iron made frontcourt in the league. From the talent oozing out of Yao and Griffin, we are literally trading away a shot at a dynasty for Duncan, with whom we are most likely end up being just a contender.

With Duncan on board we will become better than the Mavs but a tad worse than the Kings.

    C. Divac + Pollard < Duncan + Cato advantage the Rockets
Pf. Webber + Thunderburke > Kt + MoT advantage the Kings
Sf. Predrag + Turkoglu > Rice + Nachbar Huge advantage the Kings
Sg. Doug + Cleeves < Mobley + whoever advantages the Rockets
Pg. Bibby + BJax = Francis + Moochie even
    Chemistry advantage the Kings
    Offense advantage the Kings
    Frontcourt advantage the Kings
    Backcourt advantage the Rockets
Keep in mind Duncan's stats will be lower than now if he joins the Rockets.

We are gonna be a contender with Duncan here but there is still the Lakers and the Kings to beat. If we keep Yao and Griffin, and they become the best frontcourt tandem, which is possible, the Rockets will have a dynasty. Pretty clean cut situation so I rest my case.

Ps. Haven, I was just joking about Ming = Duncan. Hence the smilie.
