Milwaukee Bucks offerred REDD 6 year max deal http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2099115 wow thats gonna be like 6 years 90 mil! is Redd worth that much?? Apparrently the cavs sort of think so, as they offered redd the 5year max also! I guess the bucks have to make that kind of an offer, but i personally dont think redd is worth quite that much.
No way does Michael Redd deserve TMac, Dirk, Amare type dollars. He's a 2nd tier player, and should be paid as such.
Thats the type of deal that will screw the cavs over. They need to be patient. Lebron is the most attractive player in the nba to play with. Don't go wastin the doe.
Michael Redd might be the most overrated player in the NBA. And how about Ray Allen not being totally satisfied with a 5 year 75 million dollar deal from Seattle? Somebody needs to tell Ray Ray that he is not MJ or even Kobe.
when you're a city like Milwaukee, you don't have much to offer in terms of city life, fun, and a history of winning. And it's not like they have a Yao or Tracy on their roster that can hold up their team...Redd WAS that guy. Yea i say paying him max money is like paying Allan Houston max money (but not as stupidly high), but they're the Bucks...what else can you say?
I never thought he was that good, but his production has been lights out the last couple of years, including efficiency. That can't be denied, plus he also is 4 years younger than Ray. Makes a lot of sense Milw and Clev bidding over him to me, he would be a perfect compliment to James for many years. Clev can target Allen or Johnson next.
The Bucks had some great teams, including a championship team with Alcindor (Jabbar) and the Big O. Quite a few teams have never won.
Michael Redd might almost be worth 5yrs/$70MM in today's market, assuming this is approx what the Cavs could offer him. 6yrs/$90MM is definitely too much but the Bucks must max him out or they could lose him for nothing. I say the money will talk here and he returns to the Bucks. If Redd is the real deal he would be a steal for the Cavs at 5/70. If Z returns and doesn't get injured, they are a contender for the Finals next year.
Redd sort of reminds me of Michael Finley in his prime. A solid, dependable player, but someone who will never be a superstar.
i think he is not worth a max contract, he is a good player, but not a max player. on a side note what do you all think will happen with Gadzuric now that they drafted Bogut?
Mil is well aware that the Cavs were going to pull out the red carpet as well as the fact they're one of the least desirable suitors for FAs. If they don't keep Redd, they absolutely have to S&T him. Otherwise, they're guaranteed to be a lottery team for years. He's overrated as a 'franchise' player, but he should match very well with Bogut. Plus, he's all they got. Evan
while he is a good defender and a very good scorer, he isn't a go-to-guy on a top team. can he put up those numbers on a team where he isn't the ONLY scorer? on a contender he would be the 3rd best player. on a playoff team he might be the second best. he should get around 6yrs/$45M maybe $60M if you think he will get better and become a real go-to-guy. but 90?! OMG.
just another thought: how does this drive up the price for guys like: houghs, jj, cat, simmons, finley?
I was Redd I wouldn't take that deal. Playing for Cleveland with King James for less might be a better deal.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but this is the only move the Bucks could make. By extending a max offer to Redd, they show that they are willing to do whatever it takes to build a contender. They're built pretty well for the long haul with the addition of Bogut and the comeback (?) of TJ Ford. They have some average bigs (Gad, Joe Smith) and a pretty nice 2/3 punch in DMase and Redd. Now, even if Redd turns down the offer, it won't be because MIL low-balled him. It's probably better to overpay by a little then have a cornerstone player leave because he felt he wasn't getting what he deserved. The Bucks are real high on him; they made the Ray Allen trade because they felt Redd was ready to step in and take his place. Those are some big shoes to fill, but he's done a very good job, considering he was a 2nd round pick and has improved his game tremendously. I think he can continue to grow in other aspects of the game too, so it's a good move by the Bucks.
On the open market, no - Redd's not worth the max. For the Bucks and the Cavs, I argue he is. Forthe Bucks, they've no coach - and just made the most ho-hum first over all pick in the history of the world. It wasn't that bad, it wasn't good - it was a mediocre athlete with some decent skills. Redd's the best player on the Bucks, and if he bolts they've got no one to replace him, and it's going to have an impact on the fan base. Milwaukee has to keep him, regardless of cost. For the Cavs, they live with the spectre of having a great player - but one whom everyone believes is an eventual free agent signing of New York or LA. They've gotto get him some more support - and keep sending him the message that they're going to continue to invest in the team around him, before he starts thinking that perhaps his future does lie on the West Coast.
damn i still remember that one game where we played the Bucks a few years back when Redd was just garbage player and he made like 6-7 3s in the 4th qtr in which the Bucks already blew us out. It was soooo bad that even Moochie jumped on him and congradulated him after the buzzer went off. EDIT: whoops it was 9, 8 in the 4th qtr. http://www.clutchfans.net/game.cfm?gameID=217 btw, i dont think he is worth max, maybe a little more than what Cat got ($7-8mil/yr), no more, no less.
