No idea how good he’s going to be, sample size too small. If he was the number 1 pick and expected to be the franchise quarterback I’d probably still feel pretty good about his first 6 quarters.

    This!

He's going to be a backup and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't foresee future starter.

Texans have 14 more of these and it's over with!

I have an idea how good he's going to be.....Below starter - good backup! You could see how good DW4, Mahommes and Lamar Jackson were going to be their first starts.

However, I'm willing to give him 2 more starts because this week was a short week and he's had few starts in college but I haven't seen that special quality yet, the one thing he does that sets him apart.

Sometimes it takes time. You guys are ridiculous. It took two seasons for Baker.Mayfield . Watson and Mahommes are special talent. Mahommes set a year remember

I understand we live in the instant gratification age but this thread is extra special stupid especially since he hasn't had many reps. His first start on a short week.

Maybe I'm the contrarian here, but Mills did a pretty decent job with what he had to work with. Biggest win for him was no turnovers, although there was a fumble that wasn't called one (recovered by us). With the kind of pressure and beating he took all game, he hung in there and kept trying. I'd give him a solid B to B+ for his first start.

Let's not rush to judgement, QB is a complicated role and takes time and experience to master. He's got the physical skillset, but can he develop the mental toughness and aptitude to adjust to all of the things thrown at an NFL QB over this season. From what I saw last night he's got potential.

Josh Allen is better than Lamar and about same as Watson, it took him a couple years.

Exactly! He's done better than Watson did in his first 2 games and first start. Add in the fact that he played a third as many games as Watson prior to the NFL. He's green, inexperienced but has a LOT of potential.

In a nutshell stats first 2 games
Watson QBR 68.15 Mills QBR 76.8
    Watson 2TD 2 INT Mills 2TD 1 INT
Watson LNG 27 Mills LNG 35
Watson SK 7 Mills SK 5
Watson FMB 1 FL 1 Mills FMB 0

    Watson's first 2 games

Game 1 Jaguars / Savage start
    Watson 12/ 23 102 YDS QBR 60.4 2 1TD 2 INT 4 SK 21 YDS LNG 26
    Rushing 2 ATT 16 YDS 1 FMB 1 FL

Game 2 Bengals / Watson start
    Start 15/24 125 YDS QBR 75.9
    0 TD 0 INT 3 SK 7 YDS LNG 27
    Rushing 5 ATT 67 YDS 0 FMB/FL

    Mills' first 2 games

Game 1 Browns / Taylor start
    Mills 8/18 102 YDS QBR 58.1
    1TD 1 INT 1 SK 6 YDS LNG 35
    Rushing 2 ATT -1 YDS

Game 2 Panthers / Mills start
    Mills 19/28 168 YDS QBR 95.5
    1 TD 0 INT 4 SK 7 YDS LNG 17
    Rushing 0

Exactly. He’s got the size, arm and mobility to be a starter. We will see if he has the skills to be a good starting quarterback

Also, he has a chance to be similar to Joe Burrow or Herbert. Who both can/will be better than Lamar for sure. Herbert can be better than Watson.
Herbert has more physical talent than Watson. Mills is somewhere between him and Burrow on the physical spectrum.

    For the full picture:

Watson Game 3 stats onward his rookie season (yes I'll say his first two starts were less than stellar)

    Game 3 22/33 301 yards 2TDS 2INTS 41 yards rushing - close loss to NE
    Game 4 25/34 283 yards 4TDS 1INT 24 yards rushing - Dismantled the Titans. Near perfect game.
    Game 5 16/31 261 yards 5TDS 0INTS 31 yards rushing - 8 pt loss to KC
    Game 6 17/29 225 yards 3TDS 1INT 23 yards rushing - Beat up the Browns
    Game 7 19/30 402 yards 4TDS 3INTS 67 yards rushing - 3pt loss to the Seahawks
    Game 8 - Injured Reserve

Watson wasnt perfect, but it was fairly obvious that he gave his team a shot to win games. Gunslinger, risk taker - whatever. Playing it safe in the NFL will not get the job done.

Not to bash on Mills too much though, because like I've said - he is a project. Hardly played in college and what he did in HS is irrelevant by now playing with grown ass men, but he has to flash more than routine plays. He's playing scared and its not helping that his coach suddenly is coaching scared too. Mills as the pregame fist bump leader of the huddle needs to take it upon himself to read and react and make it happen. He needs to have a signature game real soon.

I thought he looked overwhelmed in game 1, this one I didn’t see him looking scared. Did see that he was a rookie.
He might not be the guy, but that game didn’t swing it in a negative way imo

    In terms of physical skillset.
Not actual QB play. Size, arm, speed is somewhere in between those two. Actual play is yet to be seen

Would Jameis Winston be a better high side comp for you? With less picks?

Where is this speed you’re talking about? I don’t care what he ran at the combine he looks slow as hell in an actual game.

No he doesn’t. He didn’t get chased down from behind a single time in roll outs or when he escaped pocket. He got beat to sideline by strong side backers and corners.
There are several videos of him outrunning defenders in college as well.
There’s a play to cooks on the sideline where he rolls out strong side and throws a dart on the run, speed and arm strength were evident.

You’re gonna sit there and say that he didn’t show ability to escape defenders and roll out? Hell they had a couple designed roll outs, or looked that way last night.
I don’t understand what y’all are watching, at minimum I doubt your eyes or athletic acumen.

He broke a tackle in the pocket that doesn’t equal speed. Herbert ran around the same 40 time at combine and looks much faster during an actual game.

Mills looked really good considering his inexperience. If he doesn’t get David Carred, I think he can be a solid NFL QB if not better. He definitely has the physical tools and really showed some poise in this game. He also did go through several progressions which was an improvement from last game.

I’m not claiming him to be a scrambling type QB, but he does have enough athleticism to be a modern QB.
And he broke several tackles and had 4-5 plays outside the pocket where he showed good speed for a QB.
I rewatched every offensive play again last night. He has build up speed and decent short area burst, he doesn’t accelerate as fast as Herbert or Watson. He looks to throw when he’s on the move. I’m good with that
