Touche.....both of these videos are pretty scary. The sad part about it is that it isnt going to change, its only going to get worse with ignorance. Ignorance is never going to change. Not to sound racist (and I know that is a cliched statement) but would these kids be "proud" if it was Hillary Clinton?? Its pretty obvious that wouldnt be the case. Why can't we just be proud to be "AMERICANS" and put our race aside, and be proud of "AMERICANS"
I don't know if the thread title was meant as a joke, but I don't see anything militant about this except their camouflage pants. It looks like a step dance performance (a very basic one at that) meant to be performed at a pro-Obama function or college political show or something similar. Step dancing. EDIT: I just went to the youtube page and read the description. Looks like I was somewhat right. If they used camouflage pants to send a militant vibe that is indeed stupid, unnecessary, and contradictory to what Obama has been talking about. But the content (at least what I understood of it, they weren't really talking in unison too well) didn't seem harmful at all. I can understand if people may take issue w/ a 'brainwashing kids' aspect though.
My fraternity has a chapter at Texas Southern. I met some of the members of that chapter when we had a regional conference. They did a step routine that was awesome. If you combined that with ROTC then you get that video. They're using the idiom to spread a positive message and support Obama. I don't see what's scary about it.
i think america has always been that way.. whether it was german-americans who still spoke german in texas for generations. or irish-americans who refused to give up the Mc in their last names, even if it meant not getting the jobs the irish were banned from having. all of these people are americans. what they brought here isn't foreign...it became who we are. everyone has had different experiences to bring us to where we are. instead of lamenting that we should be celebrating that.
To add to that, some people may be proud to be from Houston or Texas or the South, etc. It doesn't mean they're anti-everywhere else in America.
Well put MadMax. If I graduated from Clear Lake high school and Texas A&M, I'd still celebrate that when I'm old and grey. That doesn't make me anti-American. I like the Rockets ...does that make me anti-American? If I'm black, i can celebrate that. It doesn't make me anti-American.
Is that original video supposed to be negative somehow? That was awesome. They are young people talking about making something out of their lives, and family values, as well as health care. That seems like a 100% positive message. I guess you are troubled that they are inspired and are motivated in a different way than you, that doesn't make it bad or scary. I am honestly amazed that anyone would see anything negative in that original video.
If? Were you at Clear Lake? How their taunts haunt me even now! Clear Lake student section: "We've got money, yes we do! We've got money, how' bout you? Ha ha ha!" (crowd waves money in air) Could you have made a free throw after that? Looking over at your trailer-living friends, all hanging their heads. Even the cheerleaders lost their smiles. Oh, the humanity!
http://obamasquest.wordpress.com/2008/10/13/obama-chant-gets-teacher-suspended/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, so there is this middle school teacher in Missouri who got himself into trouble for posting a video on you tube of his junior fraternity regiment. This teacher, whose name was undisclosed, had his students perform a step routine while chanting lines from speeches of Barack Obama. Their step and dress are common to anyone who is familiar with African American fraternities. These students, who all happen to be African American, recited lines saying how Obama inspired them to be the next architect, the next lawyer, the next doctor, the next chemical engineer, the next entrepreneur, etc. They also spoke on Obama’s healthcare plan. Foxnews, the source that reported this story, stated the school’s superintendent, Joyce McGautha, felt that teacher should have also spoke about John McCain’s healthcare plan. According to Fox News, McGautha stated, “People are upset that possibly taxpayer money is being used to support one particular candidate and now I can understand that. And I didn’t condone them. I try very, very hard to remain within the limits of the law. I think this is unfortunate.” She also stated she was aware of the video and had a letter sent to the teacher warning him not to put it on the internet. Hmm. Now I can understand some measures being taken if the teacher was told not to put it up. But the superintendent is considering taking legal action against the teacher. So to quote The Joker (Heath Ledger) from Dark Night, “Why So Serious?” I am questioning the motives of the superintendent. Is this really about tax payer dollars supporting one particular candidate. As an African American male, I did not see that. I saw young black men Inspired by what another African American man is accomplishing, which is seeking the highest office in the most powerful nation in the world. I was inspired from watching this video. But I have to acknowledge what may inspire one person may threaten another individual. As I viewed this video on youtube, I saw that some users had posted their own video responses. As I viewed these videos, I nearly fell out of my chair from laughing so hard at their rediculous repsonses. Some were very scared of the army fatigue uniforms these kids were wearing and by them chanting “Alpha. Omega. Alpha. Omega. ” Some felt their apparel and chants were very “Marxist” like. No people. Obama is not building an army to lead our country to destruction. But from this video, I can tell you he is leading the next generation of thinkers, doctors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, etc. And that thought also may scare people. We have young black men who have a positive outlook on their lives. Too often, the media portrays a negative depiciton of our black youth. And I believe this teacher was trying to put a stop to that. Thank goodness for You Tube for we are able to create our own t.v. Though it is unfortunate this teacher was suspended and may face a lawsuit, the message he is giving to the world is far more profound.
I don't understand (and possibly someone can help me out) it didn't sound like ANY of these guys wanted to be in law or politics so why do they look up to Obama so much? What about the first black astronaut first black general do they even know their names much less a step-routine. I think we put to little emphasis on education and real heros.
Here are the REAL militant youths. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=156125 http://www.transworldnews.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=66007&cat=5 Daniel Cowart and Paul Schlesselman were arrested Monday in Tennessee by the ATF for an apparent assassination plot against Sen. Barack Obama. Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Schlesselman 18, of West Helena, Ark., are being held without bond. The two alleged white supremacists in an alleged plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama by doing a drive-by shooting with high-powered rifles. Cowart and Schlesselman allegedly discussed shooting 88 African Americans to death and decapitating 14 others in a killing spree across the country. The two chose the numbers 88 and 14 because, officials said, "they have special significance within the White Power movement." They were charged in U.S. District Court in Nashville with illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a gun store and making threats against a major presidential candidate. The two neo-Nazi skinheads allegedly shot out the window of a church and then wrote chalk marks, including swastikas, on their car. On the hood, they scribbled the numbers 88 and 14. Cowart and Schlesselman reportedly targeted a predominantly African-American high school, but did not identify the school when they were arrested. The eighth letter of the alphabet is "H," and the number 8 twice signifies "HH." It is shorthand for the Nazi greeting "Heil Hitler." The number 14 comes from the number of words in a White Power slogan: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." Court records say Cowart and Schlesselman also bought nylon rope and ski masks to use in a robbery or home invasion to fund their spree, during which they allegedly planned to go from state to state and kill people. Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), said authorities took the threats very seriously. "They said that would be their last, final act — that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama," Cavanaugh said. "They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying." "They seemed determined to do it," added Cavanaugh in an Associated Press interview. "Even if they were just to try it, it would be a trail of tears around the South."
