That's crazy. I graduated from W.S.U. when he was the coach there.. sounds like he learned a thing or two in Pullman..

If this is true, this guy is out the door-- no signed contract.

    Hahaha, this thread is great.

Yeah, the local news around here are starting BIG rumors about him.

Apparently he was partying somehow, and the UA didn't like it.

Thing is, he can't really be fired--he hasn't even finalized his contract!

Tomorrow he plays in a charity golf tourney in Bham, so more info will come out tomorrow.

But knowing how crazy this place is about football, it wouldn't surprise me that he would go, but that would be just plain stupid. Mal Moore will do the right thing (ie: give him a crappy contract to sign). It doesn't sound anywhere near as serious as Eustachy, so I don't expect much to happen. Besides, why let a(n arguably) good football coach walk?

It took months and months to find a replacement for Sir Greedy. He'll be the man for, I'd say no more than three years. I think the common consensus around here is that he's not a proven winner, but now's his chance.

    Don't screw up again Mike!

I'll keep everyone posted on the latest local developments (if any).

Well, this entire story is starting to unfold!!!

There's no link for the information I have as of yet, but I'm sure tomorrow it'll be addressed.

Sources close to myself and through "unnamed sources" (to protect myself, although who's goinna tell;) ) have hinted that Coach Price used the University's credit card he was issued to purchase alcohol. Apparently he has an alcohol problem from what I'm told. From what I know, that is fact. It's not clear whether he "stole" the credit card or not. I doubt he would have to steal a credit card to buy alcohol, considering he owns just bought an $800,000 home.

That isn't what the biggest problem is, though. My guess is that it must have been quite a bit of alcohol, even though one can argue that it's still for business purposes.

Anyway, the main problem is that he apparently solicited sex to a prostitute while in Florida. And from my sources (one of whom's parent apparently leased or allowed Price to stay at their place in Florida) that is verified. The other source is directly tied to the athletic department.

Anyway, it doesn't seem as though he will be fired--right now, that is (can anyone say Mike DuBose?).

Personally, I would have to doubt he tried to sex up a prostitute, unless he was really, really wasted. Considering he has 2 sons as assistant coaches on the football staff, you gotta wonder what was he thinking. He COULD have been covering for one of his sons, but c'mon.

If this does come out to be true, though, I would like to see him go, but I would also like to see the staff remain. They shouldn't pay for his faults, if true.

This is about to get interesting...

Will keep anyone who cares posted.

    DUDE(s)!!!

He is in meetings with the Chancellor of the university.

Walking in my 'hood, (I live across the street from the chancellor) I noticed a couple of beat up cars. Possible meeting place? I'll find out.

Too bad he didn't have sex(ual relations) with her. He would've been gone by now if that were the case. I never really liked the guy in the first place. Seemed a little too sleezy for me.

I mean no one will respect him around here. Ever.

If he stays and doesn't win AT LEAST 9 or 10 games, he's gone for sho'.

    BREAKING NEWS: PRICE FIRED

    By Cecil Hurt
    Sports Editor
    May 03, 2003

University of Alabama President Robert E. Witt announced today he was terminating University of Alabama head football coach Mike Price's employment with the University.

"His mistake has severely hurt our university and will continue to hurt our university for years to come," Witt said in preface to the announcement.

Witt said University of Alabama athletic director Mal Moore would begin the search process for a new coach Saturday afternoon. Witt said he was confident an interim coach would not have to be named, instead naming a permanent head coach soon.

The Athletic Committee of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees met at 11 a.m. and heard a few public comments before retreating to executive session. That session ended with a short statement announcing a 2:15 press conference with Witt to make the Mike Price decision public.

At 10:57 a.m., Price and his wife Joyce entered the standing-room-only conference room, flanked by their two sons. University trustees and Witt welcomed him as some 40 University of Alabama football players filed into the back of the conference hall.

The comments were invariably in favor of showing mercy to Price and allowing him to continue coaching the Crimson Tide, if not for Price's sake, then for the sake of a team that has had four different coaches in three years.

"For our football team it would be devastating to start under someone else right now," said Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle. "I'm not sure if we could do it."

"This coaching staff, they're teaching us to be better people," said running back Shaud Williams.

Price's two sons, both coaches at Alabama, also spoke on their father's behalf.

At 11:14, just minutes after the president of the board called the meeting into executive session, Price briefly greeted his players before being ushered out of the meeting area along with his family to attend the executive session.

TUSCALOOSA | When Mike Price accepted the head coaching position at the University of Alabama last December, he said it would be a dream come true to stand on the same sideline where Bear Bryant stood.

By Friday night, it seemed unlikely that would ever happen.

University of Alabama president Robert Witt is expected to announce his decision regarding Price’s future after meeting with the Athletic Committee of the UA Board of Trustees this morning. Sources close to the UA administration said that Witt was in favor of dismissing Price, and that while the coach had some support from board members, Witt’s decision was expected to stand.

For most of the week, Witt has been gathering information on Price’s behavior during his tenure as Alabama’s head coach.

The focus of the investigation has been a golf outing in Pensacola, Fla., where Price was reportedly drinking in a strip bar for much of the evening. The next morning, an unidentified women charged more than $1,000 to Price’s hotel room before leaving the premises.

The Tuscaloosa News reported Thursday that the probe into Price’s behavior has expanded to include possible incidents in Tuscaloosa, including occasions on which Price may have purchased alcoholic beverages for UA students.

Trustee John McMahon said Friday that he thinks that Witt has followed a thoughtful schedule and has made his decision within the past 24 hours. McMahon said he would not speculate on the nature of the decision Witt had reached.

Trustee John England of Tuscaloosa said he expected the board to have input at today’s 11 a.m. meeting at the Bryant Conference Center, but added that it’s the president’s decision.

“This is not a typical situation, but I suspect that we’ll hear from the president, and the president will allow us to ask questions and have input," England said.

Paul W. Bryant Jr., of Tuscaloosa, who serves on the board’s Athletic Committee, had no comment when contacted by The News on Friday.

The discussions are expected to be closed to the public because the discussion will involve Price’s good name and character. Price is expected to be present for the meeting.

Price has not commented on the allegations, saying that he is waiting on the University’s decision before speaking. Several of his friends, however, have said that Price has apologized for making a mistake.

Witt, who is even newer to the University of Alabama than Price, will face a major decision less than two months into his tenure as the school’s president.

Among the available options today are firing Price and appointing an interim coach; firing Price and initiating an immediate national search for a permanent head coach or imposing some sort of disciplinary measures on Price, but allowing him to retain his job. While some trustees favor disciplinary measures, Witt ó who said earlier this week that he expected the highest standards of ethical behavior from UA coaches ó favors dismissal, sources said.

Price has agreed to a seven-year contract worth $10 million to coach the Crimson Tide, but the contract has not been signed. The standard contract for head coaches at Alabama has a clause stating that a coach can be dismissed for any behavior “that brings (the) employee into public disrepute, contempt, scandal, or ridicule or that reflects unfavorably upon the reputation or the high moral or ethical standards of the University."

Alabama players have publicly expressed support for Price. A group of six team leaders met with him in his office on Thursday.

“It’d be a very, very tough situation" if he’s dismissed, quarterback Brodie Croyle said. “Everybody on this team feels the exact same way we do. We all want him here.

“We had more fun playing football this spring than I have since I’ve been here."

If Price is replaced, Alabama will enter the 2003 season with its fourth head coach in the past 30 months.

Two of Price’s sons, Eric and Aaron, are members of the Alabama coaching staff. Three other coaches ó Chris Ball, Kasey Dunn and Bob Connelly ó came with Price from Washington State.

Alabama coaches who were on the road Thursday for the opening of the May recruiting period were called back to Tuscaloosa on Friday.

    Well......

    THIS IS ALABAMA FOOTBALL!!!!
