Let's do it now! Kenny Thomas and Cato for Mike Miller and Pat Garrity. G-S. Francis G-C. Mobley F-Mike Miller F-Eddie Griffin C-Yao Ming ------------------------- G-M. Norris (Until Tito Maddox takes over) G-J. Hawkins F-Glenn Rice(Until B. Najbar takes over) F-M. Taylor C-J. Collier -------------------- 1.Pat Garrity 2.Terrance Morris W/ the zone we need more reliable 3pt shooters - like when we had Hakeem. Hawkins and Terrance Morris come in when we need more defence.
I don't think Orlando is parting with Mike Miller, especially with Grant Hill not being able to play a ton of minutes right now, but if that offer came up I would take that in a heart beat. Granted it would leave the Rockets thin at center but it's easier to find a back-up center then it is finding a scoring SF like Miller, even though to Cato's credit he has improved big time.
You know, it's not that hard to find out if a trade even works under the Collective Barganing agreement, which this one clearly doesn't... Besides, Cato provides some good defense off the bench, and works well with Steve when he is on the floor
Since we're on the subject of trades, I've been thinking of one that might work: We trade KT, Moochie and Mobley to Portland for Ruben Patterson and Derek Anderson. We get the defensive stopper we sooooo badly need; we get rid of Moochie; plus we get a slasher in Anderson, who can get to the free throw line. Plus Anderson is more of a team player than Mobley and takes good shots. This also opens up minutes for Nachbar. Hey, it's just an idea so I'm not desperately begging the Rockets to do it. But Moochie and KT and/or Cat has to go.
This one works according to realgm. Orlando trades: SG Mike Miller (13.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.0 apg in 31.6 minutes) Orlando receives: PF Kenny Thomas (9.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.4 apg in 28.9 minutes) PF Jason Collier (3.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.0 apg in 12.4 minutes) Change in team outlook: +0.1 ppg, +5.2 rpg, and -0.6 apg. Houston trades: PF Kenny Thomas (9.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.4 apg in 28.9 minutes) PF Jason Collier (3.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.0 apg in 12.4 minutes) Houston receives: SG Mike Miller (13.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.0 apg in 11 games) Change in team outlook: -0.1 ppg, -5.2 rpg, and +0.6 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED I can see this trade working on both ends. KT isn't really a power forward, but in the east he would certainly be better than Shawn Kemp. And the Magic alraedy have a good enoguh backcourt. The only question on Houston's end is would our rebounding really suffer that much? With Ming quickly grasping the NBA, I don't think so. I don't know enough about Miller's game, though. Is he an iso-type player?
Don't get me wrong I'm not jumping on the trade Cato bandwagon, or trades period. The team is perfect as is, but considering KT might not be a Rocket after this year I could see him being traded. I would love Miller, he would be a perfect fit, but keeping Cato obviously makes the Rockets strong up front. I just wish we knew what was up with Nachbar because having him play well and a healthy T-Mo makes this a moot point, along with Rice continuing to get better. If Nachbar is coming along well and T-Mo is getting more healthy then trading for Miller would be a moot point.
Didn't Rudy LOVE Miller when he came out? I've heard that BOKI is a euro-Miller, so IMO Miller would be duplicative. We could use that to our advantage to have two "white" 6'8"/6'9" guys hammering it from the wing. For seconds during the game, people might think that we're actually Sacramento and get really scared of us. If the ROX move KT, they've got to wait and see if my man, Odom will be available (too early to tell). Or anyone else for the matter. Teams, like the Clips, who are used to being big losers, may not be willing to let a team gel, and let their impatience preside over player personnel decisions. I'm not starting a "we must have Odom" thread. Although I will if you want me to... I'm stating that we basically have one key move, assuming KT goes and we have to look at all of our options. I imagine it (a deal) would go down to the wire and don't expect to see the ROX make a deal involving KT as a preemptive strike on the projected #9 team in the West.
