Yao Ming is developing into a top-flight center, and adding Jimmy Jackson gave them a multitalented small forward, but Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley were wildly erratic, while Kelvin Cato and Maurice Taylor continued their underachieving careers. Van Gundy is a tough customer and made it clear he's not happy with the way things have gone, but optimism remains for the playoffs -- a place they haven't been since 1999.
