Mike James' 1st choice is the Rockets http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2587084

Mike James does not expect to return to Detroit, but the experience he gained in winning a championship with the Pistons should help. He's been sought by three teams with championship aspirations — the Heat, the Lakers and (his preferred destination) the Rockets. Miami feels that James is a replica of PG Rafer Alston, the player the Heat lost to Toronto thanks to a six-year, $30 million contract. Neither James nor Alston are pure point guards, and are at their best when they simply set the offense, avoid mistakes and look to get open for 3-point shots. But James would prefer a starting spot, and the Heat will go with G Dwyane Wade as the starting point man again. ...

FYI - Sounds like just what the doctor ordered!!!
mike james?? didn't he play for the Celtics? yeah he did. i watched some games because it was local. to his credit he's a tenacious defender... but what else?
Man, you just made my day. All I can remember about the guy are his stats, which aren't too bad. If he's a tenacious defender... sign him up! I think we can get James cheap, he wants to be here, he wants a little security and, again, I think he'll be cheap!
What I like about him is that his carer 3pt% is only .342 but it goes way up to .429 in the playoffs. That shows me alot. If he comes here as our starter and puts up his career averages, 8 pts., 3.5 assists, roughly 1 steal per game that wouldn't be too bad. Of course those numbers would probably be better playing with Yao & TMac and getting more minutes.
well... don't be so excited yet. i have to say his energy was impressive even when he was with the Celtics <-- ugly, ugly basketball. i just looked up his stats and hey! they're not as bad as i remembered. never had > than 4 assists a game, but assist:TO is like 3:1 that's not bad. 3pt% was 38%... although i have to say i wouldn't have thought that watching the games. he always did come up with some steals. i guess the word to describe his D would really just be tenacious... kind of like Charlie Ward back in the day, but James is maybe a bit quicker. sample size. he's only ever taken 14 playoff threes. haha. see, instead of post padding i edited mogrod's response in here. impressive huh?
looks nice enough. 37.7% on 3's, 9.3 pts and 4.2 asts (with 1.5 TO) in 27.3 minutes. his numbers are very close to those of lue so i'm not sure who gets the nod over who (i bet one of those should be "whom") but i guess having both of them split the minutes isn't terrible (and is definitely better than ward or wilkes). definitely not worth the MLE so we better not offer it but a 1/2 MLE contract for 3 or 4 years sounds nice.
I love this guys Hustle. he might not be overly talented, but he sure makes up for it by his Hustle and defense.
James is not a great defender but at least he puts out the effort. But IMO, his best positive for us would be that he can be relied upon to make big shots for us in close games and he is also capable of creating his own shot when a play breaks down and Yao/TMac are well-covered. From what i saw of him all last year, he is a legit starting point in the league.
I'm not too excited, I just don't want Charlie Ward, and James beats the hell out of him, anyway. Besides, he'll be cheap.
