It looks like Miggy was claimed but the Stros pulled him off??!!

Who claimed him is unknown and won't be unless a deal would have been struck.

I know all teams placed most if not all there players through waviers but interesting to see what the Stros might have gotten for Miggy?

Also claimed, according to sources, was Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada. The claiming team isn't known, but also isn't important, because the Astros have already pulled Tejada back and now can't trade him. Tejada is making $13 million this year, on the final year of his contract.

Teams probably put everyone through waivers, as they can always pull them back if they don't want to deal them, but the opportunity is still there if they do clear waivers if the right deal comes along.

I would not read anything into this. A lot of teams want to know what assets are at their disposal for waiver trades.

Very true but the interesting part of this to me is that someone actually claimed him which is a big risk most teams aren't willing to take and was there trade talk or did the Stros just pull him off without even trying to move him?

A lot of buzz up here was that the Sox want Tejada...maybe the Rays blocked it.

They probably just pulled him off. A lot of teams will put players on waivers after the trade deadline to see what is available to them.

It does not necessarily mean that there was trade talk.

that's unfortunate. I was hoping the astros would have the option of trading him if they fall out of the race.

It isn't really a big risk if the guy is in the last year of his contract like Tejada. A four to five million dollar commitment for 1/3 of a year isn't going to hamstring your ability to make moves down the road. The big risk is if you get stuck with a guy like Alex Rios, with $60 million remaining on his contract.

At the beginning of the year and even at the break id say no way but he has continued to play at a all star level and like you said his attitude makes him quite attractive at a good price something like 2 yrs 10 mill or so...

Curious thing with the Stros pulling him back, either they believe we can still take the Central or they intend to keep him around longer then we think as they could have saved about 4 million this season if they would have let the claim go through considering no trade would have happened or a minor one at best still saves the 4 million...
