On a brighter note, Kolb still looks sharp as a razor out there.

Our defense blows nards against the option, always has. I honestly figured this would be close, but I didn't think they'd lose it at the end, at least.

We just don't have lateral speed on defense, if you run the corners we'll get burned every time.

Even still, I don't see any team left on our schedule that should be favored to beat us. Ulala was the wildcard and sometimes they nip you, they're Southland champs for a reason.

And Major, life as a cougar doesn't evolve around running smack towards UT. We can't change the crap that happened 100 years ago to give them about 900% more state funding than us, nor can we place them in a conference that would kill their athletics cash flow or relocate them to a town that has 9 other major sports franchises and about 3 million too many people, but what we can do is cheer for our own team and school and be proud of what we've done and strive to do better with less.

    Go Coogs.

I'm still afraid the Coogs are gonna hang 60 on us with me in attendance. Our defense is freaking' atrocious...

I'm not sure if you were being facetious or not, but if you were...

    I think UH applies...

I wasn't telling Faos to lock the thread down or anything, I was just pointing out how kind of humorous it was that this game went with zero commentary until we lost, then 2 minutes after the final buzzer 2 threads popped up simultaneously.

UH/Rice stuff should go in the Houston Sports forum, imo, but it always ends up in the hangout since UT/A&M/TCU/TTU threads go here.

Brutal. I am gonna catch as many games as I can at Robertson. But this is absolutely heartbreaking. Being competative and weaseling our way into some sort of bowl game is NOT gonna impress the casual Houston sports fans.

The program NEEDED 11-1 to open some eyes and get some fannies in some seats.

I'm curious why you think or expect casual Houston sports fans to ever get into UH football (other than people with some affiliation to UH of course). Houston isn't like Austin, where there is absolutely no other sports franchise of any level to compete with the Horns

think of Dallas...you think there's a lot casual people there who are really into SMU's or North Texas' teams? no, there's not. it's all about the pro teams there, just like it always will be for Houston

UH is not gonna get a Texansish or UTish crowd, but Houston fans will come out in much higher numbers when/if the Coogs can get some big wins over big teams.

    http://www.mindspring.com/~tbgray/uhwinatt.htm

As recently as 91 we saw 40,000 a game which would overflow Robertson.

I'm not saying that Houston is gonna be in the grip of Cougarmania even if we start to have big years. But our program can do well enough we don't have to constantly worry about survival. And because Houston is such a fertile recruting area maybe we can get into a more competative conferance. When we were in the SWC we drew pretty well cause we would get our UH fans plus the Houston based Tech fans....Aggie Fans...Ark fans...whoever we were playing that week fans. Just not a lot of local interest in the Tulsa's and East Carolinas of the world.
