Some of the PG threads lately, especially those that mention Antonio Daniels may still be a possibility, got me thinking that maybe CD has a trade in place that can't be consummated yet. I remember ESPN saying that Seattle had tried to deal him to Houston for picks, but then didn't because they didn't sign Barry or Fisher. I've also read that they're grooming Ridnour as their PG of the future (I would've guessed that anyway). Obviously, this says to me that they only think of Daniels as a backup. But of course, even if he is just a backup, they can hardly go through a season without a backup point. Then it was mentioned in the CD 610 thread that the Rockets didn't want to sign a free agent PG and that they may not know who their guy is until September. Might it be possible that we have a deal for Daniels or some other backup PG set, only it can't actually be done until August 30th (60 days after the T-Mac deal) because the other team wants Lue in return to be their new backup? Don't get me wrong, Lue ain't bad, but I'm assuming the Rockets would rather have Daniels, as would I, and James, Booth, and Potapenko all would qualify as servicable backups. So Seattle would trade Daniels, a guy they seem to be indifferent about, and get a decent backup in return, along with ditching one of their big contracts. Plus we could give them a 2nd rounder or a protected 1st. We would still have Gaines as our backup point. Yeah, I know, I'm probably stretching it, but this is the kinda stuff my mind does when I'm so deprived of Rockets news.
The fact he talked about talking about trades made me think he is in serious conversations with one or more teams.
Good point. I have the same feeling since he has made it a point (no pun intended) to say that they are looking into trades two weeks in a row on the radio. I hope we are all pleasantly surprised sometime this week with an announcemnt on a good trade.
A point that might be attainable by the Rockets that no one really mentioned is Raul Lopez. When he played against the Rockets he looked really good at breaking down the defense and finding the open man or draining the open shot when he had to.
I get the feeling Utah is going to sign Mo Williams, maybe another backup center and complete it's roster. I think they like Lopez and won't give him up.
I've mentioned him several times. The guy's got great upside, and would come cheap ($1M for the 04-05 season)...not sure he is ready to lead a Western Conference team or is much of an upgrade to Lue or Gaines, yet...but could grow to be.
