Here is a nice deal for those who are considering either upgrading to a Windows 8 professional and who might have missed out on the previous deal. This is a retail box from newegg. $70 - $40 Mail in Rebate = $30. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16832416562 Even though this is an upgrade box, you can do a clean install, without any prior keys, just like you can with Windows 7 upgrade software. Please google on how to do that. (Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you are unable to do it Also, I recommend clean install, even if you have previous version of windows.
I am pretty sure Microsoft themselves is selling the professional version for 40.00 bucks. It's 10.00 more, but you don't have to wait for a mail in rebate.
Normal I would agree with a clean install but I decided wth. I was looking around for a new desktop to replace my daily reboot Vista (smh in shame) desktop. But the box itself was as good as the cheap desktop box I was going to replace (I don't use the desktop a lot but I do have some need for it) so I decided to throw $40 at an attempt to bring this box back to life. I wanted to just try the update 1st and if that didn't go well, then start fresh. Surprisingly the update went very well and the machine is like new again. You still have to reload all your software. It took a little to get used to but once you get this personalized, setup and learn the little nuances, it's pretty nice. Though still not a fan of the new IE10 "tabs". I liked the old ones better. I found out how to get the old ones back but I feel like they are trying to replace something good with something more cumbersome.
Or if you can sit through a short video... it works just fine with a mouse and keyboard. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5BSmmSU-UZU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I can't say I really agreed with this. I put it on my old 15 inch work laptop just for fun, and I have to say I like it despite my preconceptions. I thought it was going to feel very heavy and clunky, but it actually feels a lot more lightweight and smooth than I would have expected. For a home environment, it seems to be just right. Haven't tried it in an office/technical environment. (still running a 3 monitor Windows 7 machine for work)
