http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4217348.html WOW ! cant wait to have one of these in like 5 years ahahaha
That's cute... But this is un-friggin-believable <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="432" height="285" id="VE_Player" align="middle"><param name="movie" value="http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/loader.swf"><PARAM NAME="FlashVars" VALUE="bgColor=FFFFFF&file=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/movies/BLAISEAGUERAYARCAS-2007_high.flv&autoPlay=false&fullscreenURL=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/fullscreen.html&forcePlay=false&logo=&allowFullscreen=true"><param name="quality" value="high"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><param name="scale" value="noscale"><param name="wmode" value="window"><embed src="http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/loader.swf" FlashVars="bgColor=FFFFFF&file=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/movies/BLAISEAGUERAYARCAS-2007_high.flv&autoPlay=false&fullscreenURL=http://static.videoegg.com/ted/flash/fullscreen.html&forcePlay=false&logo=&allowFullscreen=true" quality="high" allowScriptAccess="always" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" scale="noscale" wmode="window" width="432" height="285" name="VE_Player" align="middle" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></object> <object width="425" height="265"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.pbs.org/kcet/wiredscience/video/embed/86"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.pbs.org/kcet/wiredscience/video/embed/86" quality="high" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="265" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed> </object> http://labs.live.com/photosynth/
Random thoughts: This thing is incredible. Wow. If I can rig up joysticks on either side and it can play Ms. Pacman, I'm sold. The guy who builds these things for the military may have one of the coolest jobs ever. If this thing gets to around the 2k pricepoint and make it an attractive coffee table, MS will rule the home integration world. I'm personally sold for 5k. Bring it on.
bahahaha pacman? imagine the future of gaming with this thing though....could this be made to work for say, an FPS? eh guess not. but still awesome nonetheless!
I've seen technology somewhat similar to this years ago (not quite as fully featured given the time period, but the concept seemed pretty much the same), so I'm guessing that a bunch of companies may have been aiming at doing something like this (MS seems to be farther along that anyone else though, at least AFAIK anyway). Not sure if Apple has any interest to do this (don't think Apple quite has the right personnel for this type of tech?), but if they were to do it, I wouldn't doubt it if the design wasn't stolen but actually something they were already working on prior to Microsoft's public demonstration of this technology.

Holy crap! I just installed the tech preview of Photosynth on my 4 yr old P4 1.7 ghz with a crappy 128 vid card and it runs flawlessly. This is truly un-friggin-believable. This could completely change the way we view digital photography.
There were threads about this in the forum back when it was "unveiled" months ago. Microsoft calls it their "surface" technology. Here's the official website : http://www.microsoft.com/surface/ This technology is supposed be in-use by restaurants and/or casinos within the next year or two.
Multi-touch tech has been around for about 20 years or so. MS isn't necessarily further along, either. Jeff Han and his company Perceptive Pixel has been doing this stuff for a while, just not for "the average consumer" - he's also one of the guys that developed the video software called CU See Me. You can probably find his videos on YouTube, too. Apple already does this... in a smaller/lesser form... it's called the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Ya, this is pretty sweet. I think they still have to look through all the pictures and figure out at which location they are taken though. Later on I would think they will let users to put their pictures at the appropriate position. Imagine google earth integrated with this technology. It would be soooooooo sweet.
They built an algorithm that scans all the photos. It's not like they have some dude going through all these pictures to figure out where they were from. I thought that was one of the coolest parts of the technology
Ah, I should have paid more attention to the video. I thought Han was part of MS, so I just assumed they were showing variations of the tech within Microsoft. Pretty obvious now that there would be other companies that are just as far along as MS, if not further (Perceptive Pixel being one of them of course). I was actually referring more to the idea of having a "table" with an easy-to-use UI (using multi-touch or something similar) that can even identify multiple electronic devices (like a camera or cellphone), and seamlessly integrating that to some of the other applications that the "table" offers (like photo editing, online transactions, or whatever). Unless I'm misunderstanding what exactly multi-touch technology is (probably am), I wasn't really that impressed with that aspect of the technology (of course, that would make sense if it has been around for so long and used in multiple applications).
really? then that is cool. i thought that would be pretty hard to do, but i guess they can take a 360 picture and match each individual pictures to that large picture and calculate the distance and position by how they match up. it would be a really sophisticated algorithm though. what u can learn in school can't really compare what the professional in the real world can do. i can't wait to graduate now
Shuttle Endeavour in space, shot by an astronaut (see the side panel) MAN, Technology almost killed Michael G. Scott but it shows us the shuttle in Space. AWESOME.
