In his article, "Hakeem deserves to exit on his own terms," http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/505310 , Herskowitz says that an early retirement by Dream would save the Rockets space under the salary cap. As we have been over again and again here, this is not the case. Dream will count against the cap whether he retires or not. He also says Dream will make $12 million when he'll really make $16 million, but that's a minor issue.

It really annoys me that the newspaper, which is the only source of basketball information for many Houstonians, would be so damn sloppy with their fact-finding. Even apart from misinforming the public, this kind of reporting compromises the journalistic integrity of the paper and makes me wonder if I can trust what is on the front page (assuming I read anything besides the sports page).

    Absolutely correct,,,I read that, too.

In fairness to Mickey, he could be referring to a contract buyout at 50% or less, which then can free cap space, but his article did not read that way. The buyout amount (WHICH CANNOT EXCEED 50% DUE) does become the new cap figure.

So, unless you are going to look Hakeem in the eye and say, bend over and take a 50% reaming for the team and city...there is no cap relief. He has a contract...Leslie signed it...Leslie must pay it...Show Me The Money!!!

The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.

    Heypartner,
Where are all of you guys getting this info. regarding the salary cap. Is there some way to be able to read the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players' association on-line? Or do you know how to obtain a copy of the agreement? I am very interested in this topic (I'm a second year law student preparing to take a labor law job this summer), and I want to be able to settle the CBA discussions for good.

    Thanks,
    P 1st, S 2nd

    Dr of Dunk,
Thanks a lot for the link. It's so frustrating to hear 50 different answers under a given situation and for there to be only one answer.

That's why you ignore the facts, and just start making possible trades. You know... the Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, and Vince Carter for Cuttino Mobley-type trades. Nevermind how you're gonna split that boy up 3 ways... just do it!

Here's another interesting link that shows you the text of an actual NBA contract as well as rookie salary scale.

Hey Clutch, howzabout a page with the really cool links? (Or do you already have one and I'm just not looking?)
