Texas Tech sophomore receiver Michael Crabtree will announce Tuesday that he will enter the NFL draft, a source close to Crabtree said Friday. Most mock drafts have Crabtree, a 6-3, 214-pound Carter product, tabbed as the first wide receiver to be taken in April's NFL draft and a likely top-10 selection. Crabtree's father, also named Michael Crabtree, confirmed that there would be a Tuesday news conference but wouldn't elaborate on his son's decision to turn pro. "It's up to him to announce," Crabtree's father said. He said the two planned to talk about the decision Monday. However, in a story posted on the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's Web site, Crabtree's father left little doubt about the outcome. "Probably be better to go now," Crabtree's father said. "He had small injuries this year. We didn't want there to be any major injuries or anything to keep him from going pro." He told The News that the injury issues this season were a factor in the decision. His son battled foot and ankle injuries during the season. A right high ankle sprain in Tech's regular-season finale in late November limited Crabtree's effectiveness in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. Crabtree's father said his son had received input from an NFL advisory committee that said his son would be a first-round pick. Link
Not suprised here, he certainly isn't in school for his education. I wish him the best though seems like a good guy ran into him a couple of times on campus.
He would be perfect for them as long as Elizabeth Hasselbeck's bro-in-law is still the QB for them. He's got a back back now, like a certain #1 who plays for the Rockets.
A backfield with Bush and McFadden, a #1 overall quarterback who began showing signs of progress toward the end of the season, and an elite wide receiver. That's a heck of an offense right there! Although, wide receivers are one of the hardest positions to draft.
The mock draft on Sideline Scouts has Crabtree actually dropping to 15th because of his injuries and the abundance of unsigned wide receivers. Who picks 15th, you ask? Why, that would be the Texans. I'm not saying that we SHOULD take him, but don't tell me the idea of AJ and Crabtree on opposite sides of the field doesn't make you salivate just a little bit. That could go down as one of the best WR tandems in the history of the NFL if it were to happen. And that would also allow Walter to slide over to the slot where he would be a natural fit in my opinion (a lot like Brandon Stokely in Indy).
That's assuming that Crabtree is successful. Wide receivers are one of the most difficult positions to draft correctly.
In a word, no. We need another pass rusher to help Mario and a play maker at SS or FS before another WR.
