There was a rumor going around campus here at Texas Tech, that last years All American Wide Receiver of the year is going to be suspended. I hope it is all bull since I haven't heard anything outside of it. But the rumor is that Texas Tech paid him and that he got caught with an agent. I have no link since it is just a rumor.
Forgot to add also included in the rumor that they are trying to appeal the possible suspension if it is indeed true. But if Crabtree does not play on Saturday evening vs. Eastern Washington. Again this is just a rumor I have a hard time believing it since it would be all over espn if its indeed true.
Palilo was talking about this a couple of hours ago. Supposedly the Tech Rivals site is talking about it.
It could very well be bull but I am tempted to go over to the practice field and see if he is in pads.
If this is true, it's beyond stupid. Crabtree was poised to have a dominant season. Texas Tech can officially kiss their overrated hopes goodbye.
There were rumors a plenty, and many people were freaking out around town. Basically, I think everything is ok because Tech wouldn't let Crabtree practice, or play, if there was an ongoing issue. Here's the latest from the Lubbock AJ: www.lubbockonline.com Leach, Tech officials indicate Crabtree to play BY DON WILLIAMS AVALANCHE-JOURNAL Texas Tech All-American Mike Crabtree practiced Thursday and is in good standing to play, Tech coach Mike Leach said, shortly after Tech officials released a statement acknowledging that it had contact with the NCAA about a compliance issue regarding one of its players. No one with Tech mentioned Crabtree by name, but his status was the source of speculation Thursday. “The university became aware of a possible compliance issue involving a football student-athlete,’’ Tech faculty athletic representative Robert Baker said in the statement. “We have looked into the matter and communicated with Big 12 and NCAA officials and found that there were no violations.’’ The statement did not say if the NCAA agreed there were no violations and did not indicate whether an investigation is concluded. An official reached at the NCAA headquarters said he did not immediately know the answers to those questions. Big 12 spokesman Bob Burda said he was unaware of any ongoing inquiry about a Tech football player's eligibility, but said, "Protocol would be for the NCAA to establish it.'' Other than Leach, Tech officials refused to comment beyond the two-sentence statement. They also would not address the nature of the compliance issue. Leach said after the team’s Thursday workout that no investigation is ongoing. “No, there’s none,’’ he said. “I never had any question either.’’ Leach also said, “Papers weren’t stacked right. Now they are.’’ Tech hosts Eastern Washington at 6 p.m. Saturday in the season opener. Crabtree was seen suited up, going to and leaving the team’s closed practice, with teammates Thursday and joked with a reporter as he exited the stadium on the way back to the locker room. Leach said he had worked out with the first team. “And has every day this week,’’ Leach added. That’s an indication that the Raiders feel assured that he is cleared to go. It’s uncommon for players to be given game-preparation snaps who aren’t expected to play in the next game. If this is true about Crabtree then it is the stupidest move by an athelete in some time. It seems like every year you think that they couldn't get more stupid, somebody proves you wrong. In light of the whole Bush thing and the other situations that have come to light about high profile players, you would think that every legit superstar who knew they were guaranteed a lucrative NFL career would stay very clean. Bush's situation illustrates how it can hang over your head even if you get away with it all the way through college.
Much ado about nothing. He's been cleared of all charges. http://media.www.dailytoreador.com/....Saturday.Against.Eastern.Washi-3408470.shtml Be prepared for a lot of this folks.
I've never seen that picture before...Aggies annoy the crap outta me, but to put "This is TOO easy" on a scoreboard? What a bunch of asshats.
