How big do you think the ACC will get? Do you think Syracuse, VTech and BC are all just a matter of time? More?
That makes 11 teams now. I think they're saving the 12th spot in hopes that Notre Dame decides to join them.
God, no. I think the Big 10 (really Big 11) is holding out that Notre Dame will eventually join them. That one would make sense in many ways, especially geographically. Seeing Louisville in the Big East does not make much sense to me in a geographical sense.
Don't you have to have a Championship Game if you have 12 teams? Every conference should either have one or not have one. It's not fair for some to have one while others don't.
I think thats the whole point of the ACC expansion, to create two sub-conferences and create said title game.
Damn right. Remember last year when the Big 10 (11) had 2 teams that went undefeated in conference play (Iowa and Ohio St.).
Well Virginia Tech, your chances at a national title just went from decent to slim to none in one fell swoop. Have fun!
But they will need one more team and who knows who that team will be. From everything I have read, it may be 2 to 3 years before they get their 12th team.
Or KState getting beat by A&M in the Big 12 game. If not for the championship game, they would have played for the national title. Or Nebraska getting beat by Texas a few years earlier. It can be argued that the championship game has cheated the Big 12 out of 2 national championships.
Subsequently, KSU went on to lose to Purdue in the Alamo Bowl. That was the last great aggy team. From that point on they sucked. Every conference with a BCS tie-in should play a championship game. Right now only these conferences do: Big XII SEC MAC The Big 10, PAC10, Big East, and ACC all sit at home.
Amen. Either abolish the conference championships(my preference), or make damn sure every major conference power has to go through it as well. The Big 12 title game cost KSU and UT possible national title appearances.
I don't really remember the season with UT that well but I do remember that season with KSU. Everything fell into place for them that season. All they had to do was win one more game against a decent Texas A&M team and they couldn't get it done. I don't see how having to play that game cost them a national title. If they were really the best team that year, they mop the floor with the Aggies.
To be specific, the following players helped cost Texas in the 2001 Big XII Championship. Chris Simms: 2 ints, 1 fumble in the 1st half. Probably the worst game of his life, almost single-handedly blew the game. This performance will haunt him for the rest of his life. Phillip Geiggar: roughing the punter penalty on 4th down put CU in field goal position to make the score 39-30 Brock Edwards: Didn't know what play was called, and jumped for a false start on 4th and goal from the 1 yd. line. Result was Texas had to settle for a field goal, making the score 36-30, instead of 36-34.
If Texas had beat Colorado two years ago, they probably would've been in the national championship game. Chris Simms had a horrible game, Major brought us back, then our brilliant head coach (or one of his idiot assistants) called for a punt block when we were about to get the ball back with a chance to take the lead and there was a roughing the punter call.
