Beat writer Ira Winderman does not believe the Heat will match" sizable" offers for restricted free agent Mario Chalmers.

Chalmers played big in the Finals, which will probably get him a contract that exceeds his talent. Winderman points out that the Heat did everything possible not to start Chalmers last year, using Carlos Arroyo and Mike Bibby for most of the season. The Heat are in the market for the starting point guard once again.

That team is chocked with talent, but poorly designed. A true PG wont really fit with guys that demand the ball like James and Wade. They don't have much cap room, nor many attractive pieces outside the big 3, so bringing in even a mediocre PG will be difficult. If they make James the PG and put Miller in the starting rotation, their bench will be even worse.

    FA PGs:

    TJ Ford
    Acie Law
    Sasha Vujacic
    Sebastian Telfair
    Marcus Banks
    Jermaine Taylor

Their best bet is buying into the first round and drafting a PG and saving the MLE in the hopes that Dalembert takes a discount to be close to home.

Aaron Brooks for vet minimum and a fat Nike contract. They don't need a traditional PG cause Wade and James will always have the ball. They need a quick PG that can knock down shots.

They should draft Josh Selby late in the first round if they get the pick..

Yup, Brooks would fit in beautifully.

Why the hell would Brooks at this point of his career wants to take a vet's min to chase a ring. He is at the prime of his career is looking to get paid. He doesn't have a legacy to worry about. He just came off a rookie scale contract, why would he take a min contract.

I was going to say the same thing. I think AB would thrive with Lebron and Wade handling the ball more and playing off of them...think BJ Armstrong with the Bulls. The only downside to Brooks is he is not great defensively, and even if Wade were to guard the great PG's in the East, AB is too small to guard shooting guards.

This is totally not illegal and would never be noticed.

Given the general lifespan of shooting, midget PGs, this is probably Brooks' only chance for a giant payday. He sucked this year, but there is no way he'll take the vet min.

Who's gonna take a gamble and pay him after the season he had? He never fully bounced back from his ankle injury, walked off from the Rockets bench during a game, got into it with Kevin Love, got ejected in Phoenix for "grabbing his junk," and allegedly threw a shoe at someone in the crowd. I think the last 2 were big misunderstandings, but it will be in people's minds regardless.

I'm almost positive that if a player takes a huge paycut in their prime, such as AB, they will get rewarded somehow. I'm certain that if he joins the Heat for the minimum, all Lebron has to do is call Nike and tell them to pay him. He did go to Oregon too. I'm sure Nike won't mind it.

Even Brooks with a broken ankle is worth more than a min.

There's tons of teams that are willing to pay him more than that, he has no reason to ring chase at this point of his career.

At this point only washed up pg's who has never gotten a ring before is going to take a min deal to try to ride the big three for a ring. eg. Bibby

They do need a shooting PG. They thought Bibby would fit well, but he didn't have much left in his tank. Seeing him and Peja in the finals doing nothing was kind of painful.

Anyway, Brooks will make more than the vet min. There aren't that many good spot up PG out there.

I think what they need to do is play LeBron at PG. Start Miller and get some depth at the wing.

If he wants to keep the Big 3 and optimize the team, Pat Riley needs to go out and find himself some of those John Starks and Anthony Mason-type diamonds-in-the-rough players.

They are not easy to find, but Riley didn't help his chances of finding them by wasting roster spots on over-the-hill ring chasers like Juwan Howard, Big Z, Magloire, Dampier, etc.

Frankly, outside the Big 3, Riley has very little resources to work with. They only have the MLE (at best) with which to add free agents. As far as for trades, they need to keep Haslem and rely on him for big minutes. Mike Miller has a long term and bad contract considering his injuries. Joel Anthony is highly limited and not very tradable at 3.6 mil a year for 4 more years. Chalmers and James Jones are free agents and they probably need to pay up to keep them-- though they, too, might get too expensive depending on how the CBA turns out.

So, the one thing I'd change is that instead of bringing in all these over-the-hill vets, I'd use their empty roster spots (of which they have 7 or 8) to try out rookies (buy late 1st + 2nd round picks), specialists (I am thinking Jamario Moon), Euros, or younger Americans playing overseas. Most of them will not work out, and it's gonna cost you some games in the regular season, but if you get a couple hits, it's going to be worth it come playoff time.

Of course, the other thing they can do is trade one of their stars... Bosh for Scola+Lowry+Lee, for example, seems good to me for both teams. These guys have the perfect mix of talent and attitude to play next to Wade and James. Scola and Lowry are smart and not afraid of the moment.

I agree that he is worth way more than that. I guess we will have to wait and see what the CBA will look like. Maybe Miami can clear some space to offer him a nicer looking contract, or maybe MLE if it's still there. I just think Miami would be a great fit for him, but if he chooses to chase a bigger payday, I wouldn't blame him either.

If the Suns don't re-sign him, maybe the Knicks, Bobcats, Blazers, or Clippers (if they can get rid of Mo) will take a look at him.

i think something has to be wrong with bibby...i don't buy that he's done at 33. his game has never needed a lot of athleticism, so i can't see why he'd decline so quickly and early.

He was probably in a huge slump, but being a starter may have been too much pressure for him. He's simply a shooter, and he missed WIDE OPEN shots in the playoffs. I'm sure he'll make them next year, as long as he remains in a limited role.

The Heat do not need a true PG, they just need guys who can knock down open shots. Lebron and Wade handle all of the playmaking duties anyways.

Their bigger concern is adding more size for rebounding.
