I remember Gregg Popovich's first game as coach -- the night David Robinson returned from injury, during the 1996-97 season, after Bob 'the moron' Hill started the season something like 2 and 10. Of course, The Ad-mir-al broke his first a few games later ...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2256435 says SVG resigns for personal reasons. maybe Riley will just be an interim
The link below is from ESPN regarding Stan Van Gundy resigning: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2256435 The text of the report: -------------- Source: Heat coach Van Gundy resigns Associated Press MIAMI -- Miami Heat coach Stan Van Gundy is resigning today, citing personal family reasons. A team official spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision hasn't been revealed publicly. The source told The Associated Press that Van Gundy's decision would be announced later this morning. Van Gundy led the team to the best record in the Eastern Conference a season ago. It was not immediately clear who would replace him, but indications were that team president and former Heat coach Pat Riley, who chose Van Gundy as his successor a little more than two years ago, could return to the sideline. The Heat are 11-10 this season. Shaquille O'Neal returned Sunday night in an OT win against the Wizards after missing 18 games with a sprained ankle. Miami leads the Southeast Division by two games over Orlando and Washington. ---------------
I don't like Van Gundy brother that much, I think they are horrible for basketball game. But Riley is an a**hole if he does this for Stan.
Man, thats a bunch of BS. I guess it counts as personal reasons when you are personally asked to resign or be fired. somebody on the team needs to step up and say that they wont play for anybody but van gundy or something to that effect.
Wow, so he throws his long time assistent under the bus right after shaq return. If it wasn't for Stan, the Heat would still suck and Shaq wouldn't have demanded a trade to go there. The radio report that Stan resign for family reason, whatever....
Damn, did Pat Riley kill all your parents or something? I'm not the biggest Pat Riley fan, but I think he's earned the benefit of a doubt. Don't you think Riley would have gotten rid of Van Gundy LAST year when the Heat first got Shaq?
The Heat went downhill under Riley. So he threw the hot potato to Stan. Now Riley saw how Shaq could do for your team and wanted back for the glory.
Sun-Sentinel says players have been calling Riley "coach" all season. One Van Gundy down, one to go .
