http://losangeles.bizjournals.com/losangeles/stories/2003/06/23/daily51.html So the leading candidates look to be Liberty Media, MGM, and Viacom. So what does this mean for the average person? I don't know. Maybe invest in some MGM stock. What does this mean for myself and Vescey among many, many, others? Well Vivendi owns USA Network and Sci Fi channel among other assets. If Vivendi gets bought, there is a chance for a regime change in the executive situation at SciFi. Which means there is a chance that season 5 of Farscape could be produced. Or a mini-series to wrap up the story. Or the selling of the rights to the first 88 episodes, which would pave the way for another network to pick up the already written 5th season. Hold up hope...
Wow. I guess that affects you a lot more than if affects me then. Why do you hope that it is MGM? Are you a fan of Farscape? Do you think a regime change is a possibility?
Lots of movie companies changing hands. I saw that Marvel Entertainment is bidding on the Artisan Entertainment assets.
I would really appreciate Farscape being concluded. The fact that they cancelled that yet brought on "Tremor: The Series" makes me want to slap someone.
Not to mention airing The Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas, and "Scare Tactics" three times a night. Also... John Edwards??? Save Farscape!
Consolidation absolutely freakin' sucks. So, the BIG 5 media giants will soon be the BIG 4. Eventually, the BIG 3 or BIG 2. Awesome. If there's one thing I want, it is for all my news to come from the same source. God knows that won't be biased.
Of course, MGM/UA is hardly a major as it is now and haven't been for some time. That they survived the Giancarlo Paretti scandal is amazing in and of itself. If MGM ends up with Universal, it will be a considerably smaller fish swallowing a hugely larger one. I'm not sure MGM/UA could survive for much longer on its own without either buying someone or being bought by someone.
