Many of my Central American and South American friends despise Mexico as their immigration policies are draconian towards anyone South of them trying to get to the USA.

Regardless of our decisions, Calderon can kiss our you know what if he thinks he can talk about the pride of other countries people and that our tactics are deplorable while they abuse immigrants and imprison them if they stay beyond their 6 month (get to the USA!) visa.

What a joke. No wonder their economy and country is an oligarch type business and government incestual pool of garbage. Their limitations on foreigners is horrible and if it wasn't next to the USA that country would be Congo.

I'm not sure it would be Congo, but yes, they definitely do benefit by bordering us, as does Canada...

I only heard a little of his speech/criticism, and i don't have a problem with him questioning the Arizona law...Can he control who leaves his country, no, but entering it is another issue all together...With regards to his gun criticism, yeah, that was pretty weak, given that it's basically the wild wild west, open range on everyone...

    Unbelievable.

The president of Mexico lectured the American people on immigration. Not from the UN or from Mexico, but from the US Congress...AND he gets a standing ovation from Democrats?

I'll hold his opinion about as high as I hold Shakira's.

I am disgraced by the clapping in congress. This is like a stranger coming in my home and putting me and my family down. Then I in turn start clapping.

Even if the stranger was putting down a member of my family that I was not close to or even liked I would not allow this to happen. Hell would freeze over before I would be clapping. I know no one on this board would allow that to happen in their own home. So why would Congress do this?

Where is the American Pride in our country gone? Believe me I know our rules and laws are not perfect but where is the pride? This congress and presidency does not have pride in their own country. I felt like our country turned into a third ward country watching the Mexican President come into our congress and put us down while having our own congress clap. Just disgusting.

    I missed it ..
but did a Republican stand up and scream out YOU LIE!!! at him . .
I mean surely they would have less respect for this guy than the U.S.President.
I am sure they would have called him out on his contradictions

Did they benefit when we stole half their country, seized their property and made them second-class citizens?

Sorry, that's a whole different argument you're trying to bridge to there.

Calderon should have been more respectful if he wants this country's sympathy. All he did was anger most of the people here. I didn't see what everyone "applauded" (anytime I hear "All the democrats did this and that's what is wrong with our country, I just assume it's at least an exaggerration and at worst a boldfaced lie... this is based on following most of that crap up) but regardless how the congress acted, if he wanted our support, he just upset 2/3 of the nation by coming here and criticizing us all while we're all trying to figure out what to do with our problematic neighbor. Right or wrong, that's what's going on, and he should have been more tactful regarding the problems that we share.

Well the ones in the US have a better life than the ones in Mexico. Many Mexicans are willing to risk their lives to come here, deal with Coyotes, leave their families and live illegally in the US, so I would say yes the Mexicans in the USA did benefit being part of the US as opposed to Mexico
