Mexican coke is pretty popular down here, the difference is they use sugar cane instead of corn syrup in the recipe.

Do you taste the difference? I do, I prefer the Mexican version it tastes stronger.

    Yes. Better.

All soft drinks should go back to sugar instead of the subsidised corn syrup that creates a fat society.

Yup, it does taste different. I just had some yesterday, ironically. Better? Maybe, but nothing I'd go out of my way for.

Next thread you make should be a poll about how Mexican Marlboros taste different...

Well I studied the reason why sugar cost twice the amount it does in the U.S. any other place in the world but cannot remember what the reason was behind it. Tariffs maybe? Anyway, I wish it was not as expensive and maybe we wouldn't have all these products using corn syrup instead of sugar. Some believe corn syrup is a major factor in obesity too.

I believe it is tarriffs. Not many US states produce sugar cane but a lot produce corn. At the same time there is a also a sugar beet industry that can't compete with South American and Carribean sugar cane so the US has put tarriffs in place to keep the US sugar beet business from being wiped out. At the same time high fructose corn syrup is a cheaper and more plentiful sweetener.

I've noticed that sometimes the bottle says it has corn syrup or that it could be either or. Not sure, didn't try it when I saw that. That might have been at Wal-Mart though. But I agree, Mexican Coke is better and if we can end the domestic sugar industry's reign of terror, we could maybe start getting real sugar back in our unhealthy snack foods that have been made many times worse with corn syrup.

Sugar is indeed expensive because of tariffs on imports. Corn syrup is cheap because of subsidies, although with the bizarre ethanol mandate, corn prices are heading up rapidly (look up the Mexican tortilla crisis, and I'm not making that up), no idea what that will do to the prevalence of hfcs though.

The Ag policy in this country is a joke.

Mexican coke is delicioso. Down with high fructose corn syrup.

I wish I still lived on the border. I remember as a kid going with my family and buying multiple cases of Coke, Barrilitos, and Topo Chico. AS long as you exchanged the empty bottles, it was like 5 cents a Coke! Now each bottle sets me back over a buck.

Just avoid Indian coke like the plague. Twice as much sugar and half the carbonation. Ugh.. just horrible. And don't even get me started on other drinks like Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper.

I had Coke in Sri Lanka and it seemed pretty good, especially mixed with the local coconut liquor. I didn't check to see if it was bottled in India but considering how close they are I'm guessing it might.
