Astros manager suspended for tirade Williams out one game for arguing in loss to Braves NEW YORK - Houston Astros manager Jimy Williams was suspended one game by Major League Baseball on Friday for his tirade against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Williams also was fined an undisclosed amount for his “prolonged arguing and inappropriate conduct” during the bottom of the eighth inning in Houston’s 5-4, 10-inning loss. The incident took place shortly after Astros righthander Roy Oswalt unleashed a pitch high and inside to light-hitting Jesse Garcia. Plate umpire Gary Darling called the pitch a foul ball, but second base umpire Rob Drake overruled the call, claiming the ball glanced off Garcia’s helmet. Williams was ejected during the ensuing argument. “Some umpires have better than 20/20 vision,” Williams said after the game. “That umpire must have better than 20/20 hearing. Arrgh.... sad thing is, this whole mess started with an infield single TO THE PITCHER! I was already worried about this game, simply because the Astros haven't hit Trachsel hard in a couple of years.
If I was Oswalt, I would be giving Morgan Ensberg an earful as soon as I got back to the dugout!!!!!! Morgan's lack of hustle/lackadasical play allowed the FREAKIN METS PITCHER to be safe on 1st base. Otherwise, it would have been a 1-2-3 inning. this is another of those games where you get the feeling going in, that it would be hard to win. Our ace goes up against a freaking junk thrower and we are down 5-1.
