If there's one thing Texans are serious about, it's pickups.

But a Frisco man says his truck is being targeted simply because his homeowners association doesn't think it's classy enough.

Jim Greenwood said he never dreamed his HOA would have a problem with his new Ford F-150 pickup. Then he received the first of three notices threatening him with fines.

"Mr. Greenwood, you're violating a subdivision rule that prohibits pickup trucks in your driveway," the notice reads.

Stonebriar HOA rules allow several luxury trucks on driveways, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Avalanche, Honda Ridgeline and Lincoln Mark LT.

But most Ford, Dodge or Chevy pickups are restricted.

"It's very frustrating and confusing. It's hard to imagine how an HOA would try to dictate what type of vehicle you can drive and park in your driveway," Mr. Greenwood said.

Bill Osborn of the HOA board said the association also prohibits boats, trailers, golf carts and RVs in driveways.

"The high-end vehicles that are allowed are plush with amenities and covers on the back. It doesn't look like a pickup," he said. "It's fancier."

Mr. Greenwood appealed, claiming his Ford F-150 isn't much different from the Lincoln Mark LT.

"The response was: 'It's our belief that Lincoln markets to a different class of people,' " he said.

"Furthermore, one board member told my wife that if we don't like it, we can move."

HOA officials said that many Stonebriar homeowners own pickups but that they abide by the rules and keep them parked in their garages.

"A Chevy Suburban can be in the driveway," Mr. Greenwood said. "If we had a big Hummer, that could be in the driveway. If we had a Lincoln Mark LT, that could be in the driveway. But a Ford F-150 can't.

    "That doesn't make sense."

McKinney Ford dealer Bob Tomes agreed. In Texas, he said, truck owners should have the right to park their pickups on their driveways – even in a gated community.

I read that story in the Morning News, and it does seem nuts.

And what kind of world do we live in when the Honda Ridgeline is acceptable and the F150 is not?

    Madness!

He should get a camper on the back to make it look less like a truck and fancier.

HOA aka fat old white women peeking out their window every 5 minutes looking for something to complain about, while drowning themselves in icecream and cake wondering why theyre so fat and have diabetes.

My HOA doesn't allow me to drink Pabst Blue Ribbon while wearing a wife-beater. And my gf can't drink *any* canned bear while wearing FMS.

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. An F-150 is marketed to a lower class of people than a Lincoln? Ford should be sending this guy 10 trucks to park in the driveways of his neighbors.

Contrary to popular beliefs, HOAs can be good AND bad. :( They just want to keep it non-ghettified but sometimes, like the story above, they go overboard. Really, it's TEXAS, goshdarned it, let the man have his truck.

I agree with Hayesfan. I think I'll send an email to FORD: "Dudes. Did y'all hear about what happened to this here guy in my good ol'Texas?"

The dumbest thing, to me, is that it's not like it's a ratty old truck. It's a 2007 model that's pretty tricked out. For all intents and purposes, it is a luxury truck.

A newer story in the Dallas Morning News said that the Chevrolet Avalanche is an approved vehicle, and those things aren't luxury-looking at all. They're one of the most cheapo-plastic-looking things out there.

It also appears that a person could buy a ratty old, rusted out 1973 Suburban and park it in the driveway with no problem, but a brand-new relatively upscale truck is forbidden.

I know every time one of these HOA stories comes up, there are plenty of people who defend them and these stories of what appear to be pretty significant abuses don't come out very often. But I'm still glad to live in a neighborhood that doesn't have an HOA (and I defy anyone to be able to tell the difference between our neighborhood and a neighborhood with an HOA).

I'm pretty sure the HOA won't say you can drive this model as long as it's post 99 or something.

That is what makes these rules so meaningless.

73 Burban grants you the rights of parking on your driveway, whilst 2008 F150 doesn't

maybe it was an ugly Toby Keith edition.
The Ridgeline is sweet, way nicer than a Ford F150.

We need to see the picture of this guy's truck.

The ridgeline may be the most useless vehicle ever sold.

If you buy a home do you have to join an HOA? Seems pretty damn ridiculous.

if you buy a condo you do.
So far the HOA has not cracked down on my crappy plants in front.
but the book of HOA rules is insanely huge.
