Hello you all I just bought the new album with Metallica as they are one of my all-time favorite bands. I knew it was going to feature some real heavy music with roots back to Kill em all and I was actually looking forward to that. There two previos albums were a little too doll (sp?) for me. After listening to it some time realized one thing!!! I absolutely love it damn they are really back with a vengeance! They are playing in Denmark soon and I have already got the tickets so it will be great. I noticed some newspapers being really critical of St. Anger but also some that love it so apparently it splits the waters. How has the album been received in USA? And what do you all think?
Got the Metallica album recently. Awesome! The packaging is great. Nice booklet with lyrics and the bonus DVD of them performing the songs live is awesome! What a treat! As for the album itself. It is aptly titled! It is all about Anger. James' anger to be exact. He is exercising some demons on this record. A lot of "feeling" on this album. I was blown away by it. If not the best, then one of the best Metal albums of the year and clearly the heaviest Metallica album since Justice. Lots of good tunes on this album, Frantic, St. Anger, Some Kind of Monster, Dirty Window, The Unamed Feeling, My World etc. Great stuff! The only song on there I am not keen on is Invisible Kid. Just kinda plods along. Great guitar riffs, awesome double bass drum action. As for the snare drum people have been complaining about. I did not like it at first but settled into it fine on the album. I was worried it would be a problem but it ended up not being a problem at all. Also no guitar solos. And you know what? They weren't missed! I didn't think twice about them. Instead we get great layered guitar giffs from James and Kirk! Nice change of pace and adds a lot to the heaviness of the songs. I think the solos would have taken away from the energy of these songs. Seems like a lot of people dislike Metallica in general because of the Lars/Napster thing. Whatever. I really think one should not discount this album until they listen to all of it. It is a great record! Just my 2 cents
I haven't bought it yet but I was over reading all the Amazon reviews. The reviews are all over the place from Metallica fans. Some absolutely hate it, others it grows on you the more you listen to it, and others love it. Some say Metallica is nu-metal and sounds like Korn and the like. Their comparing it to Master of Puppets, And Justice For All, Kill Em All, etc. saying it is nothing like their old Metallica ways except for it is heavy. People criticizing the lack of guitar solos, Jame's singing, Lar's snare drum, etc....you name it. Whatever. I will buy it soon and see for myself.
Just one last comment Behad. That thread you referred to stopped before anyone had bought the whole album and it was the whole album I am interested in discussing so this thread has valid ground. Things to like about this new album is deffinetly that while Metallica becomes very aggresive and heavy again (perhaps more than they have ever been!!) the songs are still easy to tell apart and melodic too in my opinion. Another good thing is that it will grow on you when you hear it again and again. That is always a good thing in my book and proof that they are actually great musicians and songwriters still. On a sidenote: Lars Ulrich is not that bad a guy he really is not. He is just hated by anyone it seems. Much of that I feel is because english isn't his first language and that he sometimes sounds a little forced or arrogant when he tries to explain himself or is interviewed. I know that he off course can speak the language but you can still tell that he sounds different in english than when he speaks his native language. And not to forget he is a GREAT drummer and has been perhaps the most important keystone in keeping this band together for so long.
stra, I couldn't care less about Metallica because I'm not a fan. But what I found amusing is that you waited 11 minutes to respond to yourself and assumed that no one wanted to discuss this album. That's why I said what I said. One thing I've noticed is that the # of posts slow down at lunchtime. Be patient.
Screw Metallica. I've never been a fan of theirs, so I cannot comment on their music, but their anti-Napster stance has them on my shizzznit list forever. Poor little abused rich rockstars. My heart bleeds that some music fan may have stolen a nickel from their greedy-ass multimillionaire wallets. May they rot in hell where they belong.
I have been a big fan of theirs for years. I am one of the few that actually likes the Load and Reload albums. I must say that my first listen of the new album left me feeling largely uninspired. Some tunes were great, others just seemed so-so. But as I listened more and more, I noticed little rifs here and there that really tied things together. I have grown to absolutely love the album. It's a freaking great CD to listen to in the car. Gets me really pumped up...which is a bad thing at times. YOU FLUSH IT OUT. YOU FLUSH IT OUT.
Behad sorry for not pasting and quoting (it seems so dramatic) I know that only eleven minutes had passed but it was kind of a strategical reply I had to my own post making sure it wouldn't just fall down the list with no replies and I guess it worked just a little. I know that people start to many threads about the same topic BELIEVE ME I know and I don't want to be like that which is why I have started so few threads in the couple of years I have been visiting this site daily ( just look at my post count!) RocketManTex I can't stand that attitude!! It is not only Metallica that will benefit from people NOT downloading their music from the internet! The whole business may be destroyed if people continue that behaviour. Many sales analysis shows this! So Metallica being against Napster is OK with me they are entitled to their opinion just like you are (unfortunately). I just can't accept that you want them to rot in hell!! What have you ever done with your life that justifies this judging behaviour! Damn that's negative posting Deuce just one comment for you!!! Nice post
Does anyone else have any reviews of this album? I am considering buying it, as well as the latest release from Marilyn Manson, both of which have received mixed reviews from their listeners.
It's their best since the "black album," but it's not a Metallica classic. Much better than Load and Re-loaded, though.
Deal with it. Greedy behavior from uber-rich "artists" will kill the music business much faster than the downloading of music. I download music to check out songs & artists that I haven't heard. If I like what I hear, I buy the CD. That's the way most people use Kaaza. I hope the greedy bastards rot in hell. Out.
Metallica Still Mad at Napster Clones (AP) -- With all Metallica went through with Napster, do you really think they're going to put tracks from their new "St. Anger" album on song-swapping sites? Fans who try to download new Metallica tracks from peer-to-peer networks might find rather than getting Metallica, they've gotten incomplete tracks or, worse yet, John Denver songs. Madonna did something similar when her "American Life" album was released, except fans who tried to download it got a track of Madonna swearing at them. (Copyright 2003 by The Associated Press. a few of you here don't understand the way file swapping works. For example, kazaa... no artist will actually put their songs on one of these, that would be stupid for them. All that has to happen is 1 person can buy the cd and download it on the computer, this takes about 2 minutes. Once on the computer you can have Kazaa scan the computer for all music files and bingo!!!! Metallica's new album has been put on Kazaa. Now, these bands try and stop this by flooding Kazaa with songs that are flawed but there is an easy away around this. When searching for a new song, like St. Anger it's best to look at the filename. Anything with capital letters like STANGER is a fake. The trick is to look for something at the end of the song like (St.Anger.roc) instead of (St.Anger.mp3) Now, i know this for a fact, young and up and coming bands who are no namers love having their cd put on kazaa, it gives them some kind of exposure. These are the guys who aren't making money but still want their music on kazaa. The people who want these type of networks shutdown are the guys who are worth 100 million dollars but they need more to continue buying their hookers and funding their crack habit and that's the truth. And finally... most people who use kazaa don't just download a song to see if they like it then buy a cd. Those who use it, will download the whole cd and burn it for free.
Ditto. As soon as the record companies sign and develop true artists with actual talent, the music business will come out of it's funk. It has nothing to to with downloading, although that's an easy out for them. I download all the time and if I like the CD, I buy it because the quality is much better than home made CD's. If I don't like it, it keeps me from wasting $15. The more dogcrap music the record companies spoon feed us via MTV/VH1, the more money they will lose. The sooner they get back to signing and developing REAL talent instead of trying to cash in on the flavor of the month as quick as possible, the sooner real music fans will come back to them with their wallets open.
ima_drummer2k...if you and I ever get the opportunity to meet each other, I will buy you a cocktail for the above post. Bravo!
I agree that there are many non-talented and greedy music bands out there, but they do sell records and if you don't like it then just don't buy it.( Metallica is non of the above imo therefore I buy their cd's) I am not particularly interested in discussing the downloading issue but I just don't believe people who say that they will buy the cds after they have downloaded the music. I personally know too many people who only listen to downloaded music to believe othervise. I also happen to believe that as a musician you should get money for albums you make ( I know that the biggest bands don't suffer that much but it is my stand on this still) I actually wanted to discuss the new Metallica album not kazaa or whatever, but that's ok. I don't think anything is stopping the small bands who want to get peoples attention from putting their music out on the internet but if you don't want to have your music available for free on the internet then you shouldn't have to. I hope the Kazaa issue stops here and everyone will remember the title on this thread
